For a little over a month, the students, under the direction of the Stud- ents' Council, have been busy every night of the week working on the formal decorations. The hard work and artistic talents showed their true colours as the 'Rec. Centre was done over "in bright murals, balloons, colourful paper and even a beautiful fountain in front of the stage. In the middle of the evening, Mr. Paisley introduced the young ladies of C.H.S. and named the six finalists as chosen by the students. They werg\ Trish Sleep, Valerie Vaif Camp, Wendy Tilling, Louise Van Camp, Anita DeJong and Katie Schmidt. Then Mr. Paisley handed the evelopes to Mrs. Y. Christie, Chair- man of the Board, giving her the honour of announ- cing this year's formal queen. The Queen of C.H.S. for 1978 is a Year 5 student, Anita DeJong. Her first princess, Katie Schmidt and second princess, Louise Van Camp. Everyone can agree the regal court was very well chosen. Each of the girls received bouquets of flowers and gifts donated by Port Perry merchants. The blue jeans stayed at home this dance and all the stud- ents were smartly dressed in long dresses or suits enhancing their elegance and poise. It was an even- ing enjoyed by all. Thanks to everyone who made this 20th At Home the best C.H.S. formal ever! Monday of last week, Mr. Fletcher took ten of his "Outer's Club members to an orienteering meet near Guelph. The event was well attended making the com- petition even stiffer. Al- though it was a damp day most competitions had a River to become sanctuary for fish? Lindsay council has asked that ""no fishing"' signs along the Scugog River in that community be changed to The parks superintendent: pointed out that the river through the town is desig- nated a sanctuary prior to pickerel season, and the "no fishing signs" are removed before the season opens. However, on the request of one of the Lindsay council- lors the Parks Board approached the ministry of natural resources to have the signs changed. The Board, however, will have to go all the way to the top, to the Toronto office of the natural resources ministry, hecause "that's where all the signs come from." Hmmm. Seems like an awful lot of trouble and red At Home Queen dry run as far as the rain was concerned. In the Elite Boys, Mark Vince placed 5th, Eric Kristensen was 5th in the Experienced Boys and Anne Kristensen took 3rd in the Novice Girls. Of course, the best part of the day was stopping in at Mac- Donald's on the way home for supper. Eighteen senior students, accompanied by Mr. Scott and Mrs. Taylor, drove to Stratford, Friday, May 12. At the Festival Theatre they had the pleasure of witness- ing a well-known Canadian actor of the theatre, William Hutt, in the leading role of William Shakes- peare's 'The Merry Wives of Windsor". As cultured as the Stratford Festival is, the added comedy to this Shakespearean play made it an especially entertaining afternoon. At the same time students of the Track & Field Club had ventured to the first day of the L.0.S.S.A. meet at the Civic Auditorium in Oshawa. Though we had no first place winners Friday, everyone found it good experience for our own track meet coming up the beginning of June. Planned for this weekend, a group of the Outer's Club will be going up to Steel River on Lake Superior for the "May 24th" holiday. The members have been working hard washing win- dows, stone picking, shovel- ling dirt and even tarring houses. This extra money will help break the steep ion of gas and food for the 4% 'day trip, for the mem- bers of the school not taking the 700-mile trip up north, the Students' Council is helping to finance a trip into the big city of Toronto to see various sites. For the morning is planned, a visit to the Parliament Buildings, Captain John's Flagship and the Toronto Stock Ex- change. In the afternoon the school will tour the C.N. Tower and visit the McLaughlin Planetarium. Last week was a busy one and this one is just as jam packed and it seems so are the ones following. C.H.S. has a lot to do before this school year closes and with less than a month to go we really have to move. I hope everyone has a great long : SUNNY weekend!! Prince Albert Continued as well as two great aunts from Texas and one from Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Kerry, Oshawa, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gibson, Cobo- conk guests with Mr. and Mrs. R.
