But just because the school year is almost over, don't stop giving all your school spirit. Thursday was _ sucker day, and almost everyone took advantage of it! On Tuesday, May 16, at: Win stock market trophy Two grade 11 students from Port Perry High recently made a killing of sorts on the stock market, and in the process, captured the regional competition in a Stock Market Game play- - ed in conjunction with Wil- fred Laurier University. Dan Twomey and Jim . Treen turned a mythical $100,000 into $168,461, and the students won a trophy and $50 for their efforts. \ Winners at the provincial and regional level from across Ontario were honoured May 17 at an awards luncheon in Toronto where guest speaker was Huntley McKay, vice pres- ident of market develop- ment and research for the Toronto Stock Exchange. The Stock Market con- tests started at Wilfred Laurier University eight years ago and this year more than 6,000 students from 140 high schools took part. Starting off with a mythi- cal $100,000 the object of the game is to increase that amount over a 12-week per- iod through buying and sell- The Univer- sity's computer keeps track of all transactions, and even deducts the broker's com- missions. The professor in charge describes the game as a real learning and practical experience.
