Congratulations to Chuck Wiles and Brian Bray on their fine catch of fish taken on Saturday the 13th. The Big Brother Association of Scugog Dis- trict announced the winners last week for the "Bowl for Millions" contest. Congratu- lations to Denny Martin for collecting the largest amount of money. He won dinner for two at the C.N. Tower. Whenever I hear that folks are opening their cottages for the season, I really feel the warm weather is here to - stay. For that reason, I was glad to hear that Mr. and Mrs. F. Olsen opened their cottage, at Hall's Lake on the weekend. At the mention of Hall's Lake, I always remember an incident that happened to me a few years ago while on a vacation there. One day the resort owner came and Bardeleben, in - ® 00000000 000000000¢ FRIDAY, MAY 26-7 P.M. ONLY "A WHALE OF A TALE" (For the Children) asked if 1 would like to go water skiing. I hadn't been skiing since I was about 14 or 15 years old, so.J figured it would be fun to give it a try again. Bravely, I tied a ring type of life preserver around my waist and with a little trouble, finally got the skis on. The boat pulled away and miraculously up I went. Boy, did I feel proud of myself! But - like they say, "pride before fall'. Sudden- ly I felt my life preserver coming undone, but before I could gather enough courage to take one hand off the tow rope to grab the preserver, it had fallen off. This unnerved 'me completely and the next thing I knew I was going down. As the water came up over my head, only one thought came into my mind - "This is the deepest lake in North America." Itell you, I did some fast swimming when I surfaced to where that life preserver was. I didn't bother to try my luck again that day. Mr. and Mrs. Dearborne spent the long weekend at their cottage on Maple Lake at Haliburton. On Mother's Day, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Martyn attended St. Luke's United Church, Islington, for the baptism of their granddaughter, Nichole Martyn. After the service they enjoyed dinner and a visit with Nichole's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Martyn. Last Sat. Earl and Jean Martyn attended the wedding of Tom Rennick and Deb Freeman, held in the Scugog Island United Church. CHOO radio station, Ajax, asked the mothers to write an essay for Mother's Day titled "A Rewarding Exper- ience of Being a Mother." Congratulations go to Joyce Hatfield for winning first prize on her story. This entitled her to dinner for two at the Ranch House in Ajax. Joyce wrote a very touching story of her daughter, when she had to have ear surgery THURSDAY-FRIDAY-SATURDAY-SUNDAY MAY 25 - 26 - 27 - 28 Friday: 9 p.m. Only - All other Days 8 p.m. Only ALTE Fists From the outrageous No.1 Best-Seller THE CHOIRBOYS Warning - some language may be offensive. The museum in itself i is See SUVS VANRNNNNNSSS SS SSS Sssss ss sss sass sss ss SS ENITH CHROMACOLOR always interesting, but this weekend was very special. There is an original Green- bank house, moved to the museum site and it is com- pletely dpne inside in anti- que style. It's furnished in beautiful antique furniture and even the wallpaper, which is new, is an authentic reproduction of the old time wall paper. In the kitchen, a woman, dressed in period costume, was baking bread, "on an old fashioned stove. The main floor in the museum is set up like the old General Store from the pioneer days. A big tent was erected to use for an entertainment program. The talent was excellent and a good variety was provided. There was every thing from old time square dancing to senior - citizen singing. The Rev. Parsons from Blackstock sang a solo and his two daughters Janet and Marlene sang duets with Eva Hunter accompanying them on the piano. Other interesting demon- strations going on were candle dipping, ice cream making, churning butter, spinning of yarn and the looms being operated. This museum is opened every weekend and well worth your 'time to go and see it. Mr. and Mrs. Pugh spent the weekend at Trout Creek visiting their son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Pugh. While there they attended the 25th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Phil Odrowski. After all, it is not what is around us, but what is in us, not what we have, but what we are, that makes us really happy.
