S 350 boys and girls in softball competition = Port Perry and District Minor Softball after several weeks of registraton, meet- ings and practices is now .,prepared for the 1978 season. Well over three hundred and fifty boys and girls have been divided into their respective categories for team competition. There will be four T-Ball teams playing at the lake- front diamond every Mon- day evening, and these five to seven year old boys and girls play with enthusiasm second to none. There are five Squirt House League teams from Port Perry and one team fromPleasant Point, to make a six team league in Aztecs 6 Hackers 1- McQuades 1 In the first game of last Monday's Ball Hockey act- ion (May 22), the Aztecs put out the Flames 6 to 2. The second game was quite a defensive, battle as the Hackers (Doug Scott's new team name) tied McQuades team 1 to 1. Jay Neill led the way for the Aztecs with a hat trick. Other goals were scored by Al Faux, Hal Storry and Rob Kroonenberg. Assists on the goals went to Hal Storry and Sean Taylor, with two each,Paul Beare, Terry Henderson and Al Faux. The ten to thirteen year old boys will be in the Pee Wee House League with two teams from Port Perry, two from Greenbank and one from Pleasant Point.The girls have been divided into teams in the seven to ten year old group and ten to. sixteen year old group have a four team league.As usual the Association has Pee Wee, Bantam and Midget teams all playing in the York-Durham League. In the second game the Hackers scored midway through the first frame on a goal by Russ Stephens as- sisted by Bruce Smith. McQuades team got the equalizer with five minutes remaining in the second period on a goal by Kev. Martins assisted by Steve Jones. The third frame went scoreless.Both teams were highly penalized. McQuades team had thirty seven min- utes in penalties while the Hackers. took twenty four minutes Attend next week's action as the Flames try to end their winless streak of six games. Brown were the only students in the primary grades to Scott and Robbie 170 students take part in Canada Fitness test On Wednesday May 24 all of the primary boys and girls in grades 1, 2 and 3 were invited to take part in the Canada Fitness test at R:H.Cornish School. The test was composed of six events including the 50, yard dash, 300 yard run, flexed arm hang, speed sit ups, standing jump and the shuttle run. Invites Port Perry teams to Verona tournaments The Verona Minor Soft- ball Association will be holding four OASA sanction- ed tournaments this sum- mer and teams from Port Perry and area are invited to attend. All tournaments are eight- team double knock-out e- vents with the first eight teams to register accepted. In fact, ten parents stayed from 9:00 to 3:30 with only a short lunch break. The school is always pleased with the support we receive from the mothers in Port Perry. All students were awarded a pin for participating and crests were given te many who achieved a high stan- dard in four or more of their events.
