smn = nw As EY rm py---- To Tes 17 bh Be by Anne Kristensen June 8 was a day of mixed feelings at C.H.S. Another school year has passed and the perennial question arises -was it worth it? At this point in time the answer is in the affirmative. The morning was spent cleaning out lockers for starters. Many surprises - overdue library books, three month old laundry and the terrible tests you forgot to take home to your parents accidentally on purpose, of course. When this obnoxious task was completed, we had mini classes in all subjects to hand in our well-worn text- books and to receive the final word as to whether we were exempt from June exams or we were to have a few more days of agony. Some unfort- unately did not escape the ironhand and as a result will be visiting the school during the next week in a last attempt to get that precious credit. At noon the Grade 9 room was turned into an over- crowded cafeteria. When the food arrived everyone dug into the buffet dinner of . "Kentucky Fried Chicken, salads, rolls and ice cream. All agreed it was "finger lickin" good. Before the afternoon activ- ities started the Yearbook staff made presentations of prizes to the winners of the dance-a-thon. Marlene Par- sons and Jane Davies were each given an extra token of appreciation for their very hard work getting sponsors and collecting their enor- mous sums of money. Mrs. Doris Taylor from Port Perry, who is the Area Cam- paign Chairman for the Can- cer Society, was on hand to accept the cheque for $200.00 which the Yearbook Staff donated to this charitable organization. Mr. Paisley, having the official results from the election for next year's Stu- dents' Council, introduced the executive and mainstays for next September - Social Convenors - Betty Jane Tay- lor and Mark Vince; Secret- ary - Linda Duivesteyn; Treasurer - Anne. Kristen- sen; Vice-President - Lois Van Camp; President - Katie Schmidt. The class repre- sentatives will be elected in September during the first week back. After all the announce- ments about exams, report cards, summer school (per- ish the thought!) the assem- bly disbanded and it was on to fun and games. There was volleyball at the Rec Centre and baseball at the school diamond. Cameras were flashing all day long so we will have some permanent reminders of another excit- ing last day to look at throughout the summer. The day was over all too soon; for most of us, one item is number one on our summer agenda - recuperation! Correction: re Terrace Bay trip - the person who named Moose-a-pee Creek was not our Mr. R. J. Scott but Mr. J. Scott of Port Perry. We must give credit where credit is due so our 'PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, June 21, 1978 -- 35 * CHS students wrap up school year apologies to both Mr. Scotts for this unfortunate error.. On Tuesday, June 6, we held our own Track and Field meet. The weather was perfect and participation and competition were at an all time high. However it was the AliKats who emerged victorious at the end of the day's activities. Individual champs were as follows - Leanne Van Camp for the Midget Girls; Tim Cochrane for the Midget Boys; Karen Post for the Intermediate girls; Craig Larmer for the Intermediate boys; Louise Van Camp for the Senior girls; and Ray Porrill for the Senior boys. Hopefully report cards will be available for pickup on June 30; if you cannot make it back to the school that day, the reports will be mailed to 'you. 83 days until school starts - in the fall, so make the most of your summer.
