Cadets on weekend houseboat cruise The Port Perry Cadet Corp went naval last weekend and in travelling to Balsam Lake area to pick up the boat a faulty water pump grounded the troop carrier at Green- bank, five minutes out of Port Perry. While waiting for a tow truck and replace- ment transportation the cadets set up camp behind the United Church and pro- ceeded to demolish the pre- pared chili. Three hours later the corp embarked on Burnt River heading for Rosedale lock. The trip through the Trent System from Rosedale to Bolsover was taken on a 38 foot houseboat owned by a Mr. Carson from Burlington, Ontario. The cadets camped and ate at the camp areas by the locks while the officers had to rough it on the house- -boat. Cpl. Ron Higgins was exer- cise o-c and ran the complete weekend. Cpl. Don Peterson was campsite NCO, respon- sible for having the camp set up and cooks and clean up crews organized. Tpr. Shel- JUNE F Houston Housns. The weather co-operated and boat traffic was low, permitting a smooth pleas- ant trip with a little excite- ment thrown in when a few large cruisers passed leav- ing some rather large wakes and a few wet cadets, even one wet instructor. : These trips require a fair amount of arranging when nothing out of the usual occurs, but when a kink is thrown in it usually means the end of a trip. The loss of the truck should have ended the trip except for the assis- tance of the Ontario Regi- ment who were already. stretched running an exer- cise and C.F.B. Toronto who were not required to help except to recover the dis- abled vehicle. Both units provided additional small buses to augment C.I. Hodg- son's van and move the Corp to Burnt River.
