14-- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, June 28, 1978 Effective July "78 Old age pensions to rise Increase in the Old Age Security pension, Guaran- teed Income Supplement and Spouse's Allowance, effec- tive in July, 1978, were an- nounced this month by Health and Welfare Minister Monique Begin. Increases in Old Age Security pension and Guar- anteed Income Supplement payments represent the nineteenth quarterly escala- tion based on the cost of living, as provided for in the Old Age Security Act since October, 1973. The new monthly total at the single rate for persons receiving both the basic Old Age Security, pension and maximum Guaranteed In- come Supplement will be $271.87. For a married couple, both pensioners, the combination of the basic pension and maximum supplement will provide a payment of 518.62 for the couple monthly. The basic Old Age Security pension will rise in July to $159.79 from the present $156.66. The Guaranteed Income Supplement is paid to pen- Louise Patterson Handicraft Guild The June meeting of the Louise Patterson Handicraft Guild took place on June 14th in the St. John's Church Hall. Since it was the last meet- ing until the fall, the ladies decided to make an occasion of it with a pot luck luncheon at 12 O'clock followed by a short business meeting. During the business meet- ing, the recent show at the Latcham Centre was discus- sed and all agreed that it had been a success. We are reminded about entering our craft items in the Port Perry Fair and also about the special rug hook- ing prizes which the Guild has donated for best hooked rug (two prizes) and best hooked wall hanging (two prizes). The program convenors reported that the craft to be demonstrated at the Septem- ber meeting will be Decou- pagge so come on ladies, let's all stick together. See you at the September 13th meeting. Celebrate 50th Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Frank Not- tingham celebrated their golden anniversary with an afternoon reception, sur- rounded by relatives at the Little Britain Community Centre on Saturday, June 17, 1978. Among the guests was a pleasant surprise of cou- sins from England, Mr. Allen Nottingham and from Mass- achusetts, his daughter, Miss Freda Nottingham. Mr. and Mrs. Nottingham were married in Pickering, Ontario on June 27, 1928 by Rev. A.R. Sanderson. They lived on their farm at Raglan from 1928 until 1934 when they moved on a farm at Sonya where they are still residing. The guests were welcomed at the door by their youngest grand daughter Jean Marie Nottingham who was in charge of the guest book. Following the reception around 200 friends and rela- tives called during the open house and dance to-extend their best wishes to the happy couple.' Assisting their parents in receiving friends and rela- tives were their son Ross and his wife Shirley, their daugh- ter Kay and her husband Lawrence Morrison and their 10 grandchildren.
