Bowlers from seven clubs took part in the game. The event was won by a home team, Rick DeShane who is the youngest member of our club, had W. Owen as his partner, winning with the score of 52 plus 6 over the entry of R. Gallagher from Bowmanville who had a score of 50. The next two prizes went to Oshawa, C. Baxter and his partner 3rd and J. Morrison of Oshawa a 4h, B. Coppin of Whitby claiming the 5th prize. The following Monday, June 19, the ladies of the local club hosted a ladies doubles. Although the weat- her was not favorable in the morning, the sun shone in the afternoon making ideal play- ing conditions for the last two games. Bowlers were present from Markham, Whitby, Oshawa, Lindsay and Can- nington clubs. The team skipped by. Dorothy Nichol- son of Oshawa was high for the day with a score of 50 +4 and Helene Piatti and her partner also of Oshawa was the next winner with a score of 38. The two game prizes went to Fern Reynolds of Lindsay score 36+1 and Joy Henderson, score. 35, of Markham with Mary Hock- ley of Lindsay picking up the one game. We were all much on the go, it seems, as we had a ball tournament, a wed- ding in our church and our annual Sunday School picnic to attend along with the various decoration services. Our birthday box was very well visited Sunday morning when Mrs. Marion Barrett, Mrs. Reta Bge, Mrs. Leta Doupe and Mrs. Gertie Wanamaker deposited their coins. Happy Birthday folks. Please have your baking there at 3 p.m. Following the church ser- vice Sunday morning the Sunday School children, parents and teachers en- joyed a barbeque picnic at our ball park. Everyone enjoyed trying out the new playground equipment re- cently installed. After lunch races of various kinds were Wins wrist wrestling championship A Port Perry woman, Ray- lene Cameron, upset the ladies wrist wrestling cham- pionships last Saturday night by winning in her catagorie. Although she had never wrist wrestled before com- petitively, Raylene was talked into entering the competitions being held at the Royal Hotel in Whitby and before it ended she won the title from Audrey Hanna, a nineteen year veteran of the rt. BY inning the district championship, she is now eligible to advance to the Ontario chanipionships to be held at Iroquois Park later this. year. Raylene is the daughter of Roly McClean. 'Nestleton, Ontario the order of the day with all ages participating. Larry and Elaine Willerton were the winners'of the egg throw- ing contest and Debbie Mc- Askill and Don Beacock showed us they could kick their shoe the farthest. Little Michael Smith was the winner of the youngest per- son prize. Our thanks to our local Stedman's store for donating some of the prizes which helped to make our picnic lots of fun for every- one. Our ball team participated in Oakwood ball tournament Saturday winning one game and losing one. Most of the team and their wives en- joyed the dance in Oak- wood's new arena Saturday night. This little community needs to be congratulated on their Summerama day Saturday. We enjoyed all the events including a terrific parade and bathtub race. During the ball games our own Phil Bertrand hit three home runs. Congratulations Phil and hope you have lots more for us this summer. Our heroes were back on the field again Sunday night in their leagye game against Cambray but were defeated. (No score available) You sure are a good looking team in those spiffy new uniforms. Come over to the park Sun- day night and cheer these fellas on. We hope Kelly Boyle and Paul Wanamaker are feeling better now after their recent bout with chicken pox. I a SR a PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, June 28, 1978 -- 21 Greenbank W | by Mrs. A. Empringham Mrs. D. McKean, presi- dent called the June 2Ist meeting of the Greenbank Women's Institute to order. After singing the Opening Ode and repeating the Mary Stewart Collect she wel- comed all members and visi- tors to the meeting. We were glad to have the members of the Honeydale branch as guests. Mrs. McKean then read the poem entitled '"There's sunshine in a smile." The roll call was "what 1 do when I do as I please. Most ladies were glad to put their feet up and read. An announcement was made that the Annual picnic will be held July 11th in Elgin Park in Uxbridge. The group in charge was Mrs. N. Hunter and Mrs. A. McMillan. They picked Unity as their motto. A, Learn bo Drive LUKE'S DRIVING SCHOOL in the paper on this suhject pre- pared from former copies of the Women's Institute maga- zine Home and Country was read by Mrs. A. McMillan. Mrs. E. Martin of Prince Albert was guest speaker. She showed slides and told us of her trip to Australia and New Zealand. They attended the Royal Easter show at Sydney which is equivalent to the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto. It was very inter- esting to see how other coun- tries display their products. She also showed pictures of native animals and places in Australia and New Zealand. A relaxing sing-song was enjoyed. It was conducted by Mrs. G. Mero and Mrs. W. Stone was at the piano. The meeting closed with the singing of the Institute Grace and O Canada. A lovely lunch was served by the group in charge.
