She thenread a scripture passage from Luke 6. Verses 47-49. Dorothy Hope drew an analogy between termites which eat away at wood and evil forces which confront the Christian. However, unlike the wood which is eventually destroyed by the termites, the Christian has God on his side and He is an indestructible strength. The ladies present then sang the Lord's Prayer to the tune of a West Indian Folk Song. Joy Newnham led the women in a responsive read- ing and Eva Hunter related a story of a young man whose life was changed when he converted to Christ. Pat Reid took up the offer- ing. Following the singing of Hymn 445, the ladies enjoyed learning some Caribbean folk songs. Pat Reid then spoke about the Caribbean society and than a white man. It seems the lighter his skin is, the better his chances -are of being successful. Each U.C.W. member present then showed an art- icle which came from the Caribbean or told an inter- esting fact about the Carib- bean. The meeting was then turned over to Lila Clarke who, in Betty Deeth's ab- sence, was in charge of the business portion. The roll call was answered by a suggestion as to what type of gift would be suitable to send to U.C.W. members who are for such gifts and that they should be purchased from Scripture Press. The minutes of the last meeting and the correspon- dence were read by June Bidgood. The various com- mittees presented their reports. It was decided that the U.C.W. will conduct the Prince Albert Church ser- vice on October 15th. Shirley Brawn closed the meeting with prayer fol- lowed by a delicious lunch served by Diana Brough and Catharine Daigle.
