A letter from the Township lawyer tabled at a regular meeting of council Monday afternoon said that the campsite operator is not site plan agreement as re- quested by the municipality, quested by the municipality, and that a building permit applicaion for boat slip cov- erings at the camp-site has been withdrawn. The issue has been simm- ering since last year when the Twp. council asked that a new site plan agreement be negotiated spelling out such things as the location and number of trailers, boat slips parking and playground areas. A meeting several months ago between the council and owner Phil Goreski failed to Snowmobile club project gets OK A request by the Port Perry Snowmobile Club for Township endorsement of a building project by the Club was granted Monday night by Scugog Council. Club members Bill Harper and Dave Ballingall told Council Monday night that the group is planning to con- struct a permanent building on a 1.8 acre site near the Summerlea Golf Course on the Shirley Road. Mr. Harper said that the Club needs the Township's endorsement of the project in order to get Wintario funds to cover up to one-third of the estimated $21,000 cost. He said that while the land and building would be owned and operated by the Club, the facility would be open to the public on a rental basis. The Snowmobile Club is planning to construct a permanent building with steel walls on block found- ation, fully insulated and panelled inside. It would be equipped with a kitchen and washrooms, and meet the requirements for special occassion liquor permits. Mr. Harper said after the meeting Monday night that if all goes well the Club hopes to start construction late this summer and have the build- ing ready for the snowmobile season. Nursery school grants Scugog Township council has agreed to make applica- tion for two provincial grants to help in the purchase of new playground equipment for the Blackstock Nursery School. The applications for pro- vincial grants will be based on a total project cost of $3300 (including volunteer labour) with up to $1100 to come from Wintario and $825 from the provincial comm- unity centres grants pro- gram. The remainder of the cost would be raised by the nursery school. No to levy hike Continued ed by land division. In turning down the motion members of council felt that the $1000 levy per lot is high enough, and as councillor Vern Asselstine said, it could "kill the goose that is laying the golden egg". - Ward 4 councillor Neil Mc- Laughlin's objection stemm- ed from the fact that the new levy would be applied to farmers who sever off a retirement lot from the family farm and they would have little use for the park facilities created through such a park fund. The motion actually came up during the afternoon sess- ion of council with council lors Richard Drew and Don Crosier absent from the chambers. Seeing that a tie vote could develop with only four councillors present, Mayor Lawrence Malcolm said that while he would have been prepared to settle the issue by breaking a tie vote, he would prefer that the issue be tabled until the evening session when all members of council would be in attendance. When the vote was finally taken late Monday night, councillors Richard Drew, Neil McLaughlin, Vern Asselstine and Don Crosier were opposed, and council- lors Rose and Jerry Taylor in favour. The $750 park fund levy would have applied to all new lots created in Scugog whether through land divis- ion or plan of subdivision, although in the case of reg- istered subdivisions, the municipality can accept five per cent of the subdivision land for park purposes. Ltd. 235 Queen St. Pictures ready in 5 minutes 985-7383 In agreeing to make appli- cation for the grants on behalf of the Nursery School, the council also agreed that once the approvals for the grants have been received the municipality would pro- vide interim financing until the actual grant monies are received. Pattersons of Port 197 Queen St. - 985-8332 make any headway and the matter was turned over to lawyers for both parties. Following receipt of the letter from the Township lawyer on Monday, council issued instructions to the municipal by-law officer to make an. inspection of the grounds to determine if there he are any contraventions of the." old site plan agreement which remains in force, The question was raised by councillor Jerry Taylor of what action the Township should take if it is found that there are violations of the old site plan agreement, and councillor Reg Rose sugges- ted that if there are violad ions, the municipality should "seek a court injuction "until the provisions of the agree- ment are adhered to." The letter from the Town- ship lawyer says that in light of the fact that negotiations for a new site plan agree; ment have apparently brokzy en down, the Township" should now "vigorously en- force its existing by-laws and existing site plan agree- ment."
