Highway planned The Ontario government is planning to build a new highway south of Lake Simcoe which would start at Highway 400 in the west and end up at Highways 12 and 7 just north of Sunderland. The two lane roadway will be built in three phases at an estimated cost of $20 million, and will include a new inter- change at Highway 400. Although construction is expected to get underway in late 1980 or early 1981, final approval is still needed under the regulations of the Environment Assessment Act before any right-of-way is purchased. The route now being pro- posed was selected with such things as safety, environ- mental and agricultural dis- ruption, and community impact in mind: The first phase of con- struction will begin with the section between Highway 11 and Sutton Road, the second stage will be in the stretch between Highway 48 and Highway 12 and the final stage is from Highway 11 to Highway 400.
