OTHER PROBLEMS While Scugog Council may have averted a potential problem with Westshore Marine and residents living in the area, there is a second issue brewing over the op- eration of Cedar Stone Park on Highway 12, north of Greenbank. Council Monday night app- roved a motion from Coun- cillor Reg Rose which calls on the Township by-law en- forcement officer to make an inspection of the Cedar Stone Park on the weekends to determine if zoning reg- ulations are being broken. The issue centres around the Park operators allegedly allowing part of their land to be used as a picnic area without the proper zoning designation. The land in question is now zoned agricultural, and if it is being used for picnics it must be re-zoned. Councillor Rose said that his motion to send the by-law enforcement officer to the land by picnickers, and the owners of the park last fall assured council that they would make an application nis courts was suggested. Mr. Bailey said the float plane would not be left over- night, and that gasoline would not be stored there. The plane. would be re- FLOAT PLANE BASE Council agreed to a re- quest from Jim Bailey, op- erator of Greenbank Airport, to set up a temporary float plane base on the Port Perry waterfront. Mr. Bailey said that the plane would be used to take up passengers for sight- seeing, and would be docked at a removable wooden pier about 20 feet from the shore. Council had no objection to the idea in principle, but an exact location for the dock was not agreed to. The Township reminded the owners this past winter about the zoning change if the entire park is to be used for recreational pur- poses, but so far there has been no application for a re- zoning. Scugog Council Briefs SOCCER FIELD Minor soccer in Port Perry may yet find a permanent home, this time on 40 acres of land just east of the sewage lagoons, now under jcontrol by the provincial environment ministry. Soccer association repres- entative Brian Yeo told cou- ncil Monday night that the new proposed site would be fine, as the land is flat, has access to Simcoe Street, and could be turned into a reg- ulation field for a minimum amount of money. Council learned Monday that another proposed site for the field, this one behind the new arena, would require some $7000 to grade and put in shape as a proper field. A third proposed site at an abandoned gravel pit in Ward 1 was all but ruled out by the soccer association because it is too far from Port Perry. BED STRAW The weed Bed Straw is apparantly getting out of hand on some of the road allowances in Scugog and spreading into pasture fields. Recent spraying has not killed the weed, and a sugg- estion Monday night that brush spray be used didn't sit very well with Scugog Mayor Malcolm. He said there is no way he could go along with brush spray because while it may kill the bed straw, it also kills everying else. He suggested that Township residents might not like the idea of de- foliated road allowances. Fish virus Lymphosarcoma, a condi- tion found in muskellunge, is a viral-caused cancer of blood cell-forming tissue. It is characterized by one or more fleshy ulcers, usually on the flank of the fish, which begin as lumps in the muscle and enlarge prgressively until they break through the skin. The disease may ulti- mately be fatal to the fish. Although humans are not susceptible to lymphosar- coma, the unsightly appear- ance of infected muskellunge renders them unappetizing. At presnt, research on the transmission and nature of" this disease is being con- ducted at the University of Guelph.
