A family picnic was held recently at the home of Norma Geer, on the occas- sion of her mother's birth- day, Mrs. Florence Middle- ton, of Port Perry. Paul and Gerrie Heard and baby Paul from Oshawa spent the long weekend with Bud and Helen Heard and Scott at their trailer in Have- lock. On Sunday Chas. and Lor- raine Andrew attended the George Davey Motors Picnic held at Poplar Park. I took a walk along the streets of Prince Albert one day and took note of the way the houses are numbered. I pity anyone trying to find a home in our area by the house numbers. There are even and uneven numbers on the same side of the street. One house was 186 and the house beside it was 223. That's a big jump and an uneven one at that. When I inquired of one lady how she received the number for her new home, she replied, "Well, I looked on each side to see what the neighbours had, and found a difference of 50. So I just picked a number in between that I liked and hung it up." Scugog Municipality ad- vertised in the Port Perry Star, approximately 2 year's ago that the houses in Prince Albert had been numbered and they asked all home owners to come and get their number from the Municipal office. PORT PERRY STAR -- Wernesday, July 12, 1978 -- 13 I had always thought my S house was correctly num- bered at 443, but I decided to check it with the municjpal office. I was informed that my house was number 9 Queen Street. How frustrated we would be if we drove along a street in Oshawa, looking for a certain house number and found them marked like ours. So really, why should we be satisfied with less for ourselves. Let's all get together and get the correct numbers on our homes. All you have to do is phone the Municipal Office at 985- 7386, give them your lot number and street, and they will give you your right house number. I've spent quite a lot of time trying to find why our homes are numbered the way they are and who num- bered them. The first story I was told was that Bell Can- ada had given them the number, but when I called Bell Canada, they said, "No, we never had anything to do with it, your own local Town Hall would have done it." I called a former council member and he said "Defin- ately not." He was quite sure the Lions Club were - responsible. Well, I called a member of the Lions Club and -- You guessed it -- they passed the honour to the Chamber of Commerce. When I got in touch with a Chamber of Commerce member they declined the honour. I find myself back to square one and rather frus- trated, but still very curious. If anyone knows who was responsible for originally numbering the houses and when, I would appreciate a call. Wedding Bells will soon be ringing again. On July 15 the Cathy Goulding and Ronald Wheeler will be married in the Port United Church. We are sorry to hear we are going to be losing a fine principal from our school Mr. H. Keizbrink has been transferred to the Dr. C. F. Cannon School. My son has had him as a principal for the past six years and has always looked up to Mr. Keizbrink with great respect. I'm sure most students will feel they are not only losing a good princi- pal but also a real friend. Mr. Rutledge has been appointed the new principal for September. Judy Olaisen and children, Mikey and Ricky spent four days with her girlfriend, Jan Leveque, in Dunchurch. Patience is the ability to count down, before blasting off.
