For the 5th straight year course owner Jack Lally donated Sunny Brae for the day-long event which saw 340 golfers take to the fairways -and greens in a morning and afternoon draw. Each of the golfers put up $25 and the entire proceeds of $11,400 was turned over to the Oshawa and District As- sociation for the Mentally Retarded. One of the day's highlights occurred on the 6th hole when Oshawa golfer Mark Rowland scored a hole in one, and earned himself a free trip for two anywhere in the world that CP. Air flies. A hotly contested putting competition (with proceeds to the mentally retarded) was finally won by Randy Knight of Port Perry after a. four-way play-off. He won a set of golf clubs and bag Mark Rowland has reason to smile. He sank his tee shot on the par three 6th and won a free trip for two courtesy of C.P. Air. valued at $650. The best individual score for the day, a two under par 69, was carded byJim Cush- ing of Oshawa in the morning draw, while B. Read fired a 73 for best score in the afternoon draw. Gra- Flames first time The date was Monday: June 30th at the Port Perry arena. It was hot that night and so were the Port Perry Flames. They won their first ball hockey game of the 1978 season. They defeated the Hackers 6 to 2. That's 6 to 2 sports fans. The Flames got singles from Rick Cross, Art Grant, Dean Abraham, Tim Bower, Randy Knight and Rick Rahm. Assists went to Rick Rahm (2), Rick Cross (2), Tim Bower, Doug Bronson, Dean Abraham, Art Grant and Ritchie Lefort. The Hackers scorers were Bruce Smith and Bob Ryan. Assists went to Keith Fraser, Mike Mitchell, Ron Redman and Bruce Woodrow. Each team had 3 minutes each in penalties. The second game of the night was a wild and wooly affair. A total of 105 minutes in penalties were handed out between the Aztecs and Flyers. 56 to the Flyers and 49 to the Aztecs. The Flyers had the most penalties as well as the most goals.
