In addition to enforcing the numerous regulations, the police also lend assistance to boaters who get into trouble, and often end up towing a capcized boat into shore, 'or one that has run out of fuel. The police naturally don't check all the boats on the water but when the decision is made to investigate, the officers approach the craft and hail the occupants through a loud speaker.
