The Regions Works Department are this week working on the final stages of putting the lights into opera- tion. : According to Tim O'Con- nell, one of the installers working at the corner of Lilla and Queen Streets, the light- ing system and timer box are the most advanced type "available. Although there are time settings for the traffic each way, the lights -are designed to let the traffic flow smoothly. He told the Star that the RE SR, 3 PTA) < 1 rie Sa i ERY lights are activated by coils pO B under the asphalt that are - vo 'sensitive to_ metal. When a Hens car drives over these coils, it activates the timer box and the lights will change. In this way there is no unnecessary waiting at a corner if there is no traffic coming from the opposite direction. Pedestrians can also acti- vate and change the direc- tion of traffic by means of a buttom on the standard holding the lights, and it will give additional time for™ crossing when these buttons are pushed. It was only a short time ago that it seemed imposs- ible that Port Perry would ever grow to the stage where signal lights were necessary. But, here we are in August - 1978 and we now have two sets of traffic lights within the town limits. We're no longer a "one- horse-town"'. Rick Walker attaches the wires to the pole. Within a few days, motorists should prepare to stop at the newly installed lights. Plumbing & Heating Tim O'Connell feeds a wire into the control panel Installations at Queen and Lilla Streets that will activate the signal Plumbing & Heating lights. ; "Supplies Special ; WATER SOFTENER RENTALS Police report | : damage and a charge of making an improper left turn against Lita Doupe, of RR1, Seagrave. | Police from the OPP PORT PERRY- 985-2473 | Whitby detachment report - Co, i. three motor vehicle acci- m| dents in the Scugog area EAE Ek LL Cad GUARANTEED INVESTMENT CERTIFICATES 5 years--Annual Interest MACDONALD¥CARTIER TRUST COMPANY (416) 276-2112 ~ 165 Dundas Street West.
