ISR FE 0 os - EY i Brooklin Horticulture Society" by Margaret Beath Horticulturally speaking, the County Town Carnival was a resounding success. As _Post-Publicity Director fer the Brooklin Horticultu- ral Society, I might add that itis very difficult for me not to be prejudiced when it 'omes to sounding the "praises of our own society who conducted the Horticul- ture Show, with Ialeen Craw- ford as Convener. It was well organized and the show tables tastefully decorated with gold cloths and colour- ful divider ribbons. For the second consecutive year, the Show was held in the Munici- pal Building on Rossland Road and the beautiful sur- roundings added a great deal to the general decor. Judges for the show were Mario Carnaghan from Blackstock, Allison Little of Little Britain and Marjorie Harrington of Cambray. All three judges unanimously admited that it was a very difficult show to" judge be- cause of the many beautiful speciments entered. There were 191 entries of flowers, plants and vegetables and Jean Barkey of Stouffville won First Prize for her Lily specimen and Doris Marlow, First Prize for the Best Decorative Arrangement. The enthusiasm shown this year should provide further incentive for others to parti- cipate in the coming years. It is fun, it is interesting and it is definitely educational, so this is an open invitation to all of District 5 Horticul- ture members to enter next year, thereby making it a bigger and better show than ever. Every summer hundreds of Ontarians are ripped off by driveway pavers who are better at paving their poc- kets than paving driveways. But by following the guide- lines in a new information sheet, produced by the mini- stry of consumer. and com- mercial relations, con- sumers can avoid most paving pitfalls. [4 _ The information sheet ex- plains how to choose the best company, what to look for in the contract and the kind of work and materials required FER. 1 os fa for the job. It also outlines consumer rights and respon- sibilities. "At this time of year our consumer services offices hear from many irate con- sumers whose driveways have cracked after the paver has left town," said con- sumer minister, Larry Grossman. "Although members of our enforcement staff take action against unethical contractors, they can't keep up with every - home improvement pro- blem." tn FIA LA, CO ore LET TN EAE tN Clie SEA SORRY.
