For the fifth consecutive year Neill won the men's singles championship of the Port Perry Tennis Club's annual Molson's sponsored tourna- ment. He handily defeated George Bright6to1,6to1 in less than an hour under a broiling hot sun August 6th. When asked if his victory over Bright was as easy as it appeared he replied "George didn't play as well as he usually does so it made it easy for me." Neill, who plays for Durham College in Ontario Collegiate Athletic Association tennis credited his perennial success to consistency in his play, the fact that he makes few 'errors. Jay felt that John Scott, whom he defeated in the semi-finals was his toughest opponent. In the men's consolation round Carey Fellows han- dled Rob Kroonenberg with - apparent ease as he won 6 to 1, 6 to 2 in a match that took about an hour to play. Diane Burt took an hour to defeat Winnie Watson, 6 to 2 and 6 to 1 and claim victory in the Women's champion- ship final. The closest and hardest fought match was the women's consolation final when Suzie Bigglestone emerged victorious over her mother Doris 6 to 3, 6 to 3. This' match was also the longest as it took an hour and fifteen minutes to complete. Club President Dave Nich- olishen presented- trophies and raquet bags to cham- pions Burt and Neill. Pens were given to runners-up Watson and Bright. Consola- tion winners Bigglestone and Fellows also received gifts. All the gifts were supplied by Molson's the tournament SpONSOrs.
