Last week, Mr. and Mrs. Stichmann attended a relat- ives funeral in Toronto and Saturday entertained friends from New "York. -- On Saturday, Mrs. Alva Thompson gave pleasure to Betty and Reta Reader when they accompanied her to a © summer lawn bazaar at Ash- burn on Dagmar Road. It areminded us of former occasions on the lawn and garden of Mrs. Edna Mec- Laren. While there, they visited a nearby fish hatch- ery for rainbow trout where you can make purchases on Saturday. Next there was a -scenic drive through the hills, woods and valleys of Glen Major, the birthplace of Mrs. Thompson. It was interesting to see a 100 year old church, similar to the 'Head' and nestled among the trees on the side of the road. But it lacks a front "porch and tea room. How- ever, the only services held during July and August are well attended for Sunday School at 11 a.m. and Church at 7:30 p.m. While you are really only a few miles from home, it is easy to imagine you are in the scenic area of Haliburton or New York state. It is necessary to change the date of the "Head" U.C.. turkey supper to Wed. September 20. So please keep this date free on your calendar. Thanks to the Institute for letting us have stheir night. Take care when home freezing Freezing is one of the simplest and least time- consuming ways to preserve foods at home. Food special- ists at the Ontario Food Council, Ministry of Agricul- ture and Food, say that for good results, care must be taken when home freezing. Work quickly when freez- ing foods. Freshness _de- pends on the time between market or garden and freez- er. The quality of the pro- ducts you take out of the freezer will only be as good as the ones you put in. Freezing acts only to pre- serve, not to improve. In order that foods do not take too long to freeze, pre- pare only small quantities of food at one time. No more than 2 to 3 pounds of food per cubic foot of freezer space should be frozen in any 24- hour period. Freezing more than the recommended amount can result in form- ation of large ice crystals and deterioration in food texture. . For quickest freezing and optimum keeping quality, keep the freezer at -18 deg. C (0 deg. F) or Jower. Keep a thermometef in the freezer at all times and check the temperature often. Even small rises in temperature above -18 deg. C (0 deg. F) can affect the qulity and recommended storage time of the food. Always follow proper instructions when preparing foods for the freezer. Pack- age carefully and label clearly with name and date. activities, we were lucky to have a fair attendance at the Island Church. The average for July and August so far is still higher than last year, even if some choir members are taking a vacation after working hard all year. Miss Mary Clugston of Prince Albert gave great pleasure with her two numbers. When she goes back to University, she will pursue her talent in music. . Next Sunday, we expect to have Mr. Glen Larmer of Blackstock. Mr. Larmer is active in the Scugog Choral Society and a very busy member of the United Church. Mr. Southgate of the Island will also be pre- sent to share his talent on the organ. Rev. Chas. Clarke will conduct the Service, For _ August 27, we hope to have a special Youth Sunday when a number of young people who went to the United Nations with Mrs. Grace Love will be present and take an import- ant part in the Service. So please look forward to these events. On Sunday, the Church: really looked its best with clean windows, neatly mowed lawn and flower beds cleaned out by Mrs. Maurice Fralick and Mrs. Cecil Fra- lick. Bright flowers that adorned the sanctuary were a beautiful selection of gladioli and a group of Crim- son Beauty de Graaff lilies. ~~ Students Save up to 15% on Your Fall Clothing Requirements!
