" Preparations for Port Perry ~ A fair would not be a fair without exhibits and ex- hibitors! And the Port:Perry Fair welcomes NEW exhibi- tors. In fact, it states in the rules and regulations printed in the 1978 Prize List, that -- "In all the departments the competition is- open to ex-- hibitors from all parts of the world except in the cases especially indicated in the Prize List. MUST be members." Now, did I hear you say, "How does oné& become a wmember?" Well, you just contact Marjory or Glenn Wanamaker by phoning 985-2725. The Wanamakers hold the joint office of Secretary-treasurer's of the Port Perry Agricultural Society. Membership is obtained by payment of three dollars. Where prize money is five dollars or over, three dollars shall be retain- - ed for next years member- ship, and 10 percent of winn- ings shall be deducted as entry fee. Along with a membership card, a prize book and entry form is given which describes all the rules, regulations, special events and classes. In the following years, prize books are sent automatically to members 3 early in the summer. The baby to have been born in 1977 or 1978, and the picture to be no smaller than 5" x 7". Just bring the baby picture to the west door of the Women's Building by = 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Septem- ber 2. ART AND PHOTOGRAPHY Here's a chance for you budding artists to become known for your work! An award of $5.00 will be given for a display of three works of art, any medium. Only the first six entries will be -accepted. Art must be fram- ed and wired for hanging, and no kits allowed. In the photography section the pictures must have been taken after Labour Day 1977. And don't be surprised if next year many more entry tags will have your name on them. Showing at fairs can get in your blood! YOUNG PEOPLE The Port Perry Fair is for young people too. In the 4-H section, Achievement Day 5 £ © = £ E £ £ [F Canning, The lady dir- will be held for both the Port Perry Dairy Club and the South Ontario Beef Calf Club, on Monday, September 4. The Junior Fair is a section that requires NO ENTRY FEE. It is open to all Public School Pupils of Scugog Township. All entries must be in place by 12:00 noon, Saturday. A list must accompany your entries showing the Section, Number and description as per prize list, with your name, address and school printed clearly. Entry tickets may be made out at the building, but if it is more convenient, the required number may be obtained from the Secretary during the week prior to the fair. Class 28 is for Girls and Boys 19 years and under. For new exhibitors there is no membership fee. There is always room for more entries here. Among the items is a special $5.00 prize for a chocolate layer cake, and of course the contest is open to both boys and girls! HORSES The two day fair features lots of horses, from ponies to draft horses, 12 classes in all. PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, August 23, 1978 -- 13 Fair in high gear Horse lovers will have to attend both days to catch this enlarged portion of the fair. The Horse Races are on Sunday, September 3 at 2:00 p.m. with pari-mutual wagering privileges. LIVESTOCK The Ontario County Hol- stein Show is slated for Mon- day, Sept. 4 with a total prize list of $1,744. This show is recognized as one of the best for numbers involved and quality of cattle... In the Beef Cattle class, pure bred Hereford, Aber- deen Angus, Shorthorns and Charolais will be shown. Class 18 features Ayre- shire, Guernsey and Jersey dairy cattle. The Market Class is a Commercial feature jointly sponsored by the Ontario Department of Agriculture, Ontario County Beef Im- provement Association, and the Port Perry Agricultural Society. All animals entered must be sold by auction immediately after the show. FAIR DAYS It takes people to make a fair. People with their talents to exhibit, and ani- mals and produce to show. The Port Perry Fair is made possible by many hard work- ing dedicated board mem- bers and .committee chair- men who volunteer their time and expertise. Without exhibitors, there would be no show. Exhibitors of all ages are encouraged to become part of this year's fair. Remember the Port Perry Fair is held on Labour Day Week-end, Sunday, Sepember 3 and Monday, September 4. HORSEHOES Two Scugog Township residents made credible showings in the Horseshoe Players Canadian Champ- ionships held over the week- end at the C.N.E. in Toronto. Roy McLaughlin of R.R.1, Nestleton placed 5th in the A class championship against the top competitors from across Canada. And in the senior men's class, Walter Pascoe of Port Perry placed 4th out of seven finalists. The eight finalists in the A class had earned their spots in playdowns which saw nearly 100 competitors eliminated Friday and Sat. Gloria Vanderburg of Scarboro and Steven Hohl of Wellesly placed first in the ladies and junior class respectively. Peterborough Fair At the Peterborough Fair, Saturday, Walter Pascoe teamed with Charlie Jackson of Stouffville to take the top prize in the doubles horse- shoes competitions, while Harold McLaughlin of Blackstock and Albert Jeffery of Prince Albert placed 4th.
