Received $10 from fair board for display at fair. The $10 donated to fair from the Institute went in prizes to Alice Dodds, D.L. Gower and Christena Pren- tice. Congratulations. Spotlight in Bread will be Of Bessie's seven survi- ving brothers and sisters, six Flo- rence of Vancouver being unable to attend sent her congratulations by tele- gram. Harold and Bessie were the recipients of many lovely gifts and momentos; several beautiful floral arrange- ments, a Book of Yesterdays compiled by their children and a well-laden Money-tree from the McMillan family. On teaching in the far North. Betty Ann read an item in regards to Family and Con- sumers Affairs on the 4-H program. The W.I. gives a 4-H girl when she reaches her Pro- vincial Honours an ingraved plate to affix to her plaque. The 12th unit will be starting shortly for some of these girls. For the first time the Institute is presenting an award called the 'Scugog Island W.I. reward" to an Island girl who has com- pleted grade 12 or 13 with good marks, and has been active in school and com- munity affairs and who is going to continue with her post secondary education. It was decided to do another quilt project for next year with Alva heading up same with Elsie's assist- ance. Meeting closed by singing O Canada. Betty ann spoke on the Study of the International year of the child. Elizabeth introduced the guest speaker, Mr. Cava- nagh who visited England this past summer brought us greetings from the Institute Members ac Smeeth, who celebrated their Diamond Jubilee this year. He also brought gifts from them: a poem mounted and a small brass bell the shape of a Bobby's hat. Also a picture was passed around of Mr. Cavanagh with the pen pals who correspond with some of our members. It was interesting hearing Mr. Cavanagh, makes us feel a closer bond between the two Institutes. Betty expressed thanks on behalf of the members to Mr. Cavanagh and presented him with a small token of appreciation. Lunch was served with breads and cheese, tea and coffee.
