Some time ago, one of the cousins and her two children had moved up from Cornwall for a tem- porary stay at Goreski's location. Then last week four more of the cousins arrived from Cardigan, P.E.IL to visit and assist this lady in making a move back to the home province. We are pleased to know Mrs. Christena Prentice has almost recovered from her flu virus which dragged her down for a time. Mrs. Bill Loates Sr. has returned from a 2 month visit in England -with her immediate relatives. She therefore had plenty of time to compare their living con- ditions with that of Canada. She noted that $1.87 gas does not appear to restrict the amount of driving. The historical stories from Helen and Clifford Redman make the rest of us long to go. They were much im- pressed with London, Coven- try and Bath, the city that Clifford's mother loved and repeatedly described its history. At Loch Ness in Scotland, tho' they gazed with anticipation, the mon- ster did not oblige with its appearance. -On Wednesday evening the "Head" U.C.W. will meet at the home of Mrs. Myrtle Manns. A police officer will be a guest speaker and show a film on "Driving Safety". It was World Wide Com- 'munion Sunday and was likely observed by most churches. Rev. Clarke ex- plained the two to nine sacra- ments of various denomina- tions to the children before they left for Sunday School. The Elders assisting Rev. Clarke were Mrs. Eliza Fra- lick, Mr. Cliff Love, Mr. Bob Cawker and Mr. Cliff Red- man. . The young children were pleased to have several fathers present as well as mothers. It was an enlightening and known fact that there are 39 diseases and Jesus received 39 stripes on his body by the lashes. by his stripes we are healed. The Communion reminds us of what Jesus did for us. The "Grace" U.C.W. will meet on Wednes- day evening at the home of Mrs. Heidi Krieg instead of Mrs. Elsie Pogue. The Scugog Island Com- munity Association are heading into another inter- esting season. Therefore they are starting off with a dance at the Island Hall on Saturday evening, October 14th. So come out and get acquainted with 'you new neighbours. Tickets are available from Mrs. Ed Heayn, Mrs. Bill Bobbie or Mrs. Brent Richardson. The congregation of the Island United Church de- cided that they need a new PROFESSIONALLY with LUKE'S DRIVING SCHOOL 985-8382 Directory Board to advertise the church to Island resi- dents or passers-by. The old one had become dilapidated and outmoded. The design and type chosen will be $200. plus tax. Therefore we need donations to cover this item. $50.00 has already been promised. Some who missed the Organ Fund or Hymn books, may choose to help see that the Church is recog- nized. Please send your donations to Mrs. Bonnie Gerrow either as a clear gift or in remembrance of some- one and your name will be recorded in our lovely new book. Any assistance will be appreciated. Our sympathy is extended to the former Irene Heayn and her family in the loss of her husband Lawrence Clark who was relieved of his lengthy period of suffering. Irene and Lawrence were both former residents of the Island where they attended school at the '"Head" and Foot" schools. Lawrence later became a barber in Port Perry for a period. On Sunday night the Old Fashioned Service at the '""Head" museum church was just as good as other October services. Perhaps the con- gregation was smaller that last year but the enthusiasm in music never decreases.
