During the first six months that Scugog Community Care has been in operation the goals that were set out by the Board of Directors have been met through the en- thusiasm of the 103 volun- teers and Board members. Through the 'Neighbour helping Neighbour" concept 90 senior citizens were as- sisted as well as 4 people who were handicapped. Meals on Wheels drivers delivered 779 meals; drivers logged 4,664 miles to Doc- tor's appointments, psycho- therapy, Hope Centre, Oshawa General Hospital's: Hospital Day, shopping and banking. Volunteers have given 987 hours to these tasks as well as home help, home repair, visiting and yard- work. The dedicated office - helpers who answer the tele- phone and matched volun- teers to assignments each day have given over 400 hours of service to Scugog Community Care. With the beginning of our new year we have expanded our services to meet the needs of the residents of Scugog. a In September the Meals on Wheels program was expan- ded to provide service to the Cartwright area. To our knowledge this is the first area in the.province to offer this service to a rural community. Information Scugog will be open in mid October. This service will help people find solutions to social, legal, health, governmental and environmental problems by either providing information or by referring inquiries to the appropriate service available in the community. This service will be operated from our office and staffed by our Co-ordinator, Eliza- beth Fulford and our volun- teers. We have also entered into a contract with the Com- munity Involvement and Volunteer Programme (CIVP) which is funded by the Ministry of Health. Care Advisory Board remains as last year with only three members retiring. Every member of our board has been involved in some facet of Community Care and this co-operation and active involvement will ensure continued success of the program. Anyone who is interested in Community Care is welcome to attend our regular board meetings held the second Thursday of each month, 7:30 p.m. usually in the Council Chambers, Port Perry. Our executive is as last year with Roy Grierson, Chairman; Mary Cannon, Vice-chair- man and Barbara Carnegie, Secretary-Treasurer. The volunteer is the vital person of our program. We have dedicated volunteers to carry out the services we offer but there is always a need for more volunteers.
