Our team had defeated this team twice - before and Friday's game saw the Mersco team come out the victors with a score of 8-0. The' Pickering team play- ed far better defensively for the first two periods but seemed to tire in the third where most of our goals were - scored. The coaches of the Mersco team feel more work needs to be done on the boys passing the puck to put forth a full team effort. Goal scorers for the game were Brad Menzies with a hat trick, Warren Geer - 2, Ron Crawford - 2, Robbie Brown - 1. Assists were credited to John Lally - 2, Trevor Solo- mon - 1, Mike Sorley - 2, Andrew Steele - 1. The manager of the team Marion Barkey says the boys will meet some stiff competi- OFF AND PACING Beginning Thursday, October 19, 1978 FROM PORT PERRY KAWARTHA DOWNS Pick-up at Home Service FOR MORE INFORMATION CALL: EE Lo Cy SUI E>. dn tion this coming week-end in " meeting Stouffville on Fri- day night and travelling to Bowmanville on Saturday. Uxbridge came out fore- checking strongly in the early minutes of the game and kept Port bottled up in their own end of the rink. Port were lucky to keep them off the scoreboard until the 6:55 mark when they scored the only goal in the first period. * Uxbridge went 2 goals up at the 9:09 'mark of the 'second period. A couple of minutes later their goal- tender seemed to lose track of the play and Cannon working from behind the net picked up a loose puck and waltzed right out in front and flipped the puck into the open corner of the net. Port tied the score at the 6:33 mark. when a good second effort by both Barr and Alexander resulted in their keeping the puck nic the spposions blue line il" Alexander finally got control long enough to fire the puck by the goal tender. Wilbur was also given an assist on the play. Uxbridge scored in the final minute of play in this second period to take a 3 to 2 lead. Any hopes Port had of making a third period come back were nullified by penal- ties. The back breaker being a questionable match penal- ty for butt ending which left the team short handed for 7 minutes. Port took a total of 17 minutes in penalties in the third period to 4 minutes for Uxbridge. Despite the man- power disadvantage Port were able to hold Uxbridge off the score sheet until with only 3:33 remaining in the game they scored the clin- cher. October 21st at Iroquois Park in Whitby the Brooklin - Whitby Minor Midgets scored an impressive 5 to 2 victory over Port. Port were in the game through the end of the second period being down by a 2 to 1 count. Ports goal was on a pass by Potts to Brown who worked him- self into the open and scored with a good wrist shot. Brooklin-Whitby outscored Port 3 to 1 in the final period with Port's goal being scored by Johnson from Cannon and Brown.
