The Beaverton Icehawks, a new entry in the league this year, controlled the game with positional play and strong checking while mak- ing the most of scoring chances. MoJacks were kept off balance and their scoring attack went in fits and spurts as a result. The Icehawks, a well coached team, showed some crisp passing, and their attack caught the Port Perry defenders flat-footed on several occasions. Penalties played a big part in the tempo of the game with the visitors nailed for 12 minors and a five-minute major for fighting, while MoJacks were called 15 times along with a fighting major. In addition MoJack forward Rob Greiner picked up a game misconduct for directing comments towards the referee, and defenseman Bill Owen was-tagged with a five minute major for high- sticking. Beaverton jumped into an early lead when Mike Carni- vale scored at 3:31, but MoJack defenseman Rob Kemp got that one back three minutes later with a blistering slap shot from the point that caught the top right corner of the net. The Icehawks went ahead for good midway through the first when Ian Pert cut in i : IR - » to an easy victory FANT } So by John B. McClelland for the first three minutes, Port Perry MoJacks ran and while the team managed to kill that off, Beaverton | added two quick goals at 10:44 and 12:25 to put the game out of reach. With the teams playing four aside MoJacks forwards Mark and Darrin Jobb combined at 16:20 of the second with Mark slapping "home a rebound and the second period ended 5-2. Meyers scored for the visitors at 9:14 after he was left alone in front of the net and had a couple of chances to whack the puck home. Bill Allison made it 7-2 at the 14 minute mark. Mark Jobb got his second of the night and Allison tallied again for Beaverton before Darrin Jobb rounded out the scoring with a good individual effort in the last minute of play. MoJack goalie Ray Gibson got little protection from his team-mates as several of the Beaverton goals came when the forwards were allowed to skirt the defense and move in alone, or were left un-guarded near the Port Perry net. Port Perry had three new- comers in the line-up: for- wards Bill Haynes and Mike Tobin, and defenseman Mike Adam, - who saw regular action with the team last year. MoJack defenseman Bill Owen showed some sparkle early in the first period when he blocked several shots on net, but he ran into penalty problems later in the game.
