Port Perry is aiming for their third successive Ka- wartha District Fellowship Baptists Hockey League Championship, having won the last two years and nar- rowly missing in the final three years ago. Forward Dave Harris opened the scoring just twenty-eight seconds into the game on a pass from de- fenceman Harry Michel. With 7:08 played in the first period Michel got his second assist as he set up Brian Payne for another Port goal. There was no further scoring in the period as the Peter- borough shooters were kept at bay by the sharp goal- tending of Rob Michel who was called upon to make several key saves through- out the game as his defence- men had great difficulty in clearing the puck. Please feel free to call 985-7254 or write to me at Box 813, Port Perry for more information or transportation. 'Penalties were numerous and costly for the Peter- borough team as Dave Harris scored two power play goals in the second period. There was a little criticism of the officiating by the Pete team, but in point of fact, it was really uncalled for and generally inaccur- ate. The referee called the game closely but in so doing, kept complete control of the contest. : Glen Jones tallied the only goal for the home team at 10:20 of the second from Ted White but that was answered with a score with less than thirty seconds remaining by team Captain John Michel of Port Perry. " Brian Payne concluded the scoring with 6:53 left in the game on a neat passing play from Dave Harris and Harry Michel. There was a surpriz- ing number of penalties in the final period, many of them against Port. The best player on the ice was clearly Dave Harris who notched a three goal hat trick and added an assist. Afterwards he attributed his success to his teammates. paca a aT nan a a wn ---- wn o-oo -- Ts ee EERE = EE en ee TT TT Te Te Te ee TT ech TV ae = - "Good teammates passing. I play with a great bunch of guys" was how he put it. Although it may be too early to tell, Port Perry - appears to have a fine, well balanced team. The only weakness may be an over- abundance of offence-mind- ded defencemen who are more concerned with putting the puck in the other guy's net than preventing it from heading into their own.
