The Smiths are a warm, friendly couple who have opened their home and hearts to so many folks of Prince Albert and the area. The atmosphere of the Smith home is always warm and relaxing. Ben and Florence met in Uxbridge and were married in the United Church Par- sonage in Uxbridge By Rev. Owen. They resided in Prince Albert for the past 50 years. Ben was the game warden for the area for 26 years. He * now enjoys his special hobby of gardening. Florence has many hob- bies. She wrote the Prince Albert news for many years. They have three girls, Mrs. Lorraine Doggitt, Mrs, Shirley Garvey and Mrs: Marion Leslie. While the parents cele- brate their 50 years of marriage, two of their girls are celebrating their 25th anniversary this year. . On October 28th, 1978, the Smiths celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. The family arranged a dinner held in their honour. Thirty- seven relatives attended the dinner Saturday at the Prince Albert Church. Later, in the evening, an open house was held at the Community Centre, where Ben-and Florence greeted over 100 guests. Florence wore a dusty rose coloured gown and a corsage of orchids. A special guest with her was Mrs. Marion Lawrence, a bridesmaid of 50 years ago. The happy Golden Anni- versary couple received many lovely cards and best wishes. A letter of congratulations and a telegram came from Prime Minister; Pierre Trudeau. Also a letter was received from the Govenor General of Canada. William Newman presen- ted a plaque from William G. Davis, Premiere of Ontario. Mr. G. Parrott, president of the Port Perry Agricul- tural Society, brought greet- ings and Mayor Malcolm attended to bring greetings also. - This photo of Ben and Florence Smith was taken when*they were married 50 years ago [October 31, 1928]. Friends and relatives of the happy couple helped them to celebrate the occasion of their 50th Anniversary last week at the Prince Albert Hall.
