Malcolm Congratulations are ex- tended if belatedly to all successful candidates in the recent municipal elections. From our own personal experience and observations the voting public is a fickle lot who can place you on cloud nine one year and next - time around kick the props out from under you. So enjoy your hour of glory while you may. To the losers, you may. be the lucky ones, remember next election it may be your turn to catch the fickle fancy of the elec- torate. As Confuscious say that Defeat is like Rape - if its unavoidable you might just as well relax and enjoy it! Here in Manvers the newly elected Council are as fol- lows: Reeve - George Neals (acclaimed); Incumbent Deputy Reeve - Lorne Cur- tain defeated newcomer Jayne Ciesielczyk very handily. Councillors elected were Bob Brown, Jim McMullen and Barry Pic- kering; the two latter are wetting their feet in munici- pal politics for the first time. Unsuccessful candidates but with only a few votes separa- ting the winners from the losers are Veteran cam- paigner Lewis McGill, new- comer Jim Smith and Mrs. Linda McLaughlin. On the County School board Art Rowan, Yelvertons contri- bution to the fray headed the poll with Edna Carew hold- ing the second seat in repre- senting Manvers Township, Emily Township and Ome- mee turned down County Library almost 2 to 1.
