We had a very good turn-out for our _ General Membership meet- ing held last Sunday, Decem- ber 10, 1978. Our immediate Redmen (From page 21) Dunslon. It was Gilmour's excellent shooting and rebounding that kept the Port athletes off balance. the Bulldogs defence created fifteen Port Perry turnovers in the first half. The Redmen went into the second half down by eleven points, 25 to 14. The second half was no better as Jarvis added twenty four points to Port's eighteen. Final score Jarvis 49, Port Perry 32. Afterwards Dekker, "visibly disappointed gave credit to the Bulldogs calling them. "a good team'. He also stated the obvious when he said "we were flat right from the opening tip-off. We were outhustled. George Burnett led the: Redmen rebounders with twelve and Curt Pinkowski added five. Burnett and Pinkowski also paced the ~ Redmen attack with twenty and twelve points respective- ly. Aaron Dekker, who takes a defeat about as well as the late Vincent Lombardi, said of the tournament, "I think the overall competition is good. Keeping in the spirit .of things, our next event is our Annual Christmas party to be held Sunday, December 17th 1978 at 2 p.m. in the Latcham Centre. -Our enter- tainment lady, Betty Smith, tells us she has several things planned for the little ones and we even understand she has been able to contact the north pole and that Santa will do his best to make an appearance. Members, you are reminded to contact Betty in advance if you plan to attend. Give her a call at 705-357-3467. Ther new year will start out with a Games Day and Cookout to be held Sunday, January 7, 1979. Hopefully by then we'll have lots. of snow and a trail ride will be leaving Kent's Bay at 11:30 a.m. and riding to the Games area in Doug Buller's bush. Following this, the next weekend, January 13, 14, 1979, the Central Ontario Regional Snowmobile Asso- ciation will be holding a two day ride from Pefferlaw to Noone's Restaurant on Hwy. 115 and we understand that to attend. = At this past meeting, President, Bill Harper, informed us that everything is now complete, and our purchase of some property in this area is now final. Plans are still underway for a future club-house. Mary Payne, in charge of Membership reported that our roll call now stands at 129 memberships. This is al- ready above last years figures and we still have several members who have not as yet renewed for this year. Our dues still remain the same at $15,00 per family or $10.00 per single. Our trail men, Maurice Pelletier and Roy Horne, along with some very willing members, have been busy lately, readying the trails for the winter. About all we need now, they tell us, is some of that white stuff. Our next meeting will be on Sunday, January 14, 1979. You'd think that after the meeting everyone would have had enough, but many members remained for coffee and cookies after- wards and to discuss the upcoming year. On behalf of the club, may I wish you and your family, several of our members plan __ the very best of this holiday season. Paula Lishman develops new fur fashions by Bethany Schryburt Paula Lishman, a textile artist, has put Blackstock on the map, internationally, with her-unique method of fur fashion. Experiments with fur led her to develop a fashion that sheds wind or water like a thatched roof, yet breathes. The material is soft, stretchy and supple. It fits the form of whoever wears it, almost to become a second skin. There have been requests for Paula's product se to Japan, Germany, -New York and ¢ ---California. Paula's textile background goes back to her single days when she studies weaving at Balles Art School in Mexico. Esther Bryant in Oshawa taught Paula the skills of vegetable dying and spin- ning. When the Lishman's lived in Brougham, Paula's talent was put to use, silk screening 3,500 t-shirts with "Ban the Airport" emblems, to sell as political protests. In Blackstock Paula began making several items with leather for her family, jackets, pants, sandals, and hats. It wasn't long before her mind started clicking that something warm, soft and practical could be used on the fashion market. In January of 1978, a friend suggested at the last minute that she fill a vacant spot at an International- Boutique Show in New York. From there it was on to Germany where she was represented by Kuretzky of Toronto and received orders from a Japanese company. It's been up, up and away since that time and on her own. With the help of some profes- sional dancers an innovative dance routine was composed to present fashion the ar- ticles made by Paula. The show was performed in Toronto at the World of Women Show in September and then again at Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City. The Quebec City show announced the Grand Open- ing of a shop in that city carrying exclusively the Lishman and Associated Ltd. line of art and fashion. Bill designed a special 'logo' for package design which resembles a skin marked for strip-cutting. The skins of mink, skunk, wolf, sheep, Australian possum, beaver, nutria (South "American Beaver), raccoon, rabbit muscrat, Mongolian lamb, and fox are some of the skins sent to the area cutters. After the skins are cut in a continuous strip it is returned to Paula's shop on Purple Hill for a patented process of strengthening. Then the knitters or weavers take over and as a last step leather edgeing or buttons and zippers are attached where needed. The product is then slipped into a classy unbleached cotton bag which was undergone the silk- screening process to display the 'logo'. The Cottage Industry has grown over the past year to include fifteen full time workers with five more trained and ready for a rush job. The busy season will begin again in March or April when orders will be taken for the fall of 1979. Paula is able to take advan- tage of a 500 hour training period which is subsidized by Manpower. If the orders continue to mount at the speed of the past year Paula will soon have to expand to a larger site, but at present the attic over the garage is cosy and comfortable for the job well done. a { » q * e C) ?
