Bantam B capture consolation prize by Peter Christie The Port Perry Bantam B (Canadian Tire) hockey team came up big in the Oakwood tournament on Saturday, december 16. In all three games Port got the important first goal (the tourny rule was in case of a tie the team with the first goal would win the game). In each game Al Ferguson came through with the first goal. Port lost the first game by the score of 2-1. This was a very tight, close checking game with Bobcaygeon scoring the winner with only 1:18 remaining to play. Bobcaygeon scored both of their goals while Port was shorthanded. The Port Perry goal was scored by Alan Ferguson, assisted by Larry Webb and Phil Bower. Both Bobcaygeon goals were scored by their captain Larry Woodcock, the first assisted by Paul Madill, the second was unassisted. In the second game Port tightened up defensively and opened up offensively. Port won this game 4 to 0 with Peter Christie coming up big on many occasions. This was a grudge match because the Oshawa Canadians (Little NHL) had beaten Port twice this year. Scoring for Port were Al Ferguson, assisted by Rob Burnett, Rob Burnett assisted by Kevin Trapp, Larry Webb assisted by Alan Ferguson, and Keith Tremblay scored the final goal unassisted. In this game Brian Henricks missed a chance to add to the score with a penalty shot but the Oshawa goaltender came up big and stopped him. In the Consolation game Port came up against a hard hitting team from OPS. This score was again 4 to 0 with Ken Harmen playing an excellent game in the nets for Port. Port was .deter- mined not to go home empty handed and they proved it by the way they played. Scor- ing for Port were Alan Ferguson and Kevin Trapp. The final goal was scored by Phil Bower assisted by Larry Webb and Grant Vizely. The whole team would like to thank Ken Goreski and Bert Vizely for filling in as our coaches, Keith Tremblay _ hard checking game holding a 5 to 0 led until the third period. Scoring for Stone's were Jamie Lee from Mike Fluke and Jeff Wallace. Freddie Cockerton assisted by Craig Paisley, Ian Dick- son tallied twice, assisted on ~ the second goal by Trevor Kennedy and Dean Haugen, Pete Rivoire picked up the final goal for Stone's at the 2:28 mark of the third. Paul Goreski and Steve Jackson played well between the pipes, making some fantas- tic saves. The win gave the boys a shot of confidence and we wish them success in up- coming games. To recap the games played during December, the boys have been displaying better hockey skills each game, keeping the scores much closer than they were at the first of the season. and Mark McConnell. The game ended 6 to 1 for Oshawa. December 7 the boys travelled to Stouffville for a - league game. Stone's played a good defensive game but were defeated 6 to 2. Goals were scored by Freddie Cockerton from Craig Pais- ley and Pete Rivoire. Second goal was Ian Dickson from the stick of Mark McConnell. December 9 the Pee Wee 2 played the Little NHL Canadians for a 9 to 0 game. Monday December 11 Bay Ridges were the opposition. The Stones countered with "excellent defensive plays to hold the opposition from scoring until the third period when Bay Ridges scored four goals. Final score was 4 to 2 for Bay Ridges. Our goals were scored by Jeff Wallace from Jeff Cox and Pete Rivoire from Mark McConnell. Help create 'student jobs. And we'll help you.
