Corry Greenwood Grade 3 Princ Albert IN A CHRISTMAS IN HOLLAND One year I had an adven- ture that I shall always remember. My adventure was in Holland. My family went to visit our relatives. It was Christmas time. We saw what their custom of celebrating was. First thing is that they call their 'Santa Claus" St. Nick. St. Nick arrives in a boat from Spain with his helper, Black Pete. St. Nick is a very special saint so he doesn't actually go into all the houses. In fact, he doesn't go into any of the houses. Now, since St. Nick doesn't hand out anything, he needs a helper, so he has Black Pete. Black Pete goes to schools to visit and to give out candies and toys. Black Pete does all the handing out. On Christmas Eve the children leave their shoes out on the streets by their doorsteps. They fill up their® shoes with straw and carrots for St. Nicks big white horse to eat. When the horse has eaten all the straw and carrots out of the shoes, Black Pete fills them up with toys and candies. Christmas day is Dec. 6, in Holland. This is the day St. Nick rests, and goes back to Spain the following day. Our family came home on. Dec. 7. That was my Christ- mas adventure in Holland. Kristy Armour Grade 5
