It'll be a busy and delightful atmosphere around Blackstock this week as several clubs hold Christ- mas celebrations. ' A Christmas party took place at. the weekly card party where 26 tables partic- ipated in the games. Win- ners were: 1 - Lloyd Fawns, 90; 2 - Orval yatson, 87; 3 - Bill Gosling 4 - Roy Werry, 81; 5 Swain, 80; 6 - A Potts, 80; and low - Ross Alsop. Delighted to hear that Mrs. Tennyson Samells returned from the Port Perry Hospital on Saturday. Mrs. Joe Bradburn is in the Oshawa Hospital, recovering from a recent operation and sad to say, she'll be there over the Christmas Holidays. Arvilla Henry of Black- stock is in the hospital in Port Perry. Heather Dorrell and Grant McLaughlin exchanged vows of Holy Matrimony at the United Church followed by a reception at the Recre- ational Centre. Stewart and Helen Dorrell 'and family spent the week- end in Blackstock, down from their home in Charlton. Harold and Eileen McLaughlin entertained 23 members of the Tom family in their new home by the pond on Sunday afternoon. Lorna Wright, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wright is home for two weeks of the holiday season, returning from Indonesia where she has been teaching for three years. After the holidays, Lorna will be heading for London, England, where she plans to continue her education. Sunday evening in the United Church at 7:30, close to a hundred adults gathered to join the Sunday School children in celebrating the birth of Christ. The children performed well, under the direction of Jean Adams, Sunday School superintend- ent, and several teachers. Trish Sleep and Caroline Carnaghan provided the | piano accompaniment for the lovely songs geared to the theme, 'A Rightside-Up. Christmas'. In closing the adults were asked to line-up and light a candle in the Christmas spirit, 100 candles were inserted into a six-foot log placed on the altar of the church. As the light from the log grew, so did the glow of the Christmas Spirit in each and everyone attending. Several enjoyed refresh- ments following the service in the Christian Education Room and a delightful social time. The Anglican Church in Blackstock held their Christ- mas Program on Sunday evening. Twenty children of public school age presented a chorale play based on the customs of Christmas. After the program the children were presented with lovely gifts from the Sunday School, and treated to cup- cakes and ice cream in the Parish Hall. The Anglican Chureh Women met. Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. Neil Bailey. Several matters of business were discussed and the evening closed with a social coffee time. A Christmas Family Gath- ering was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Law- rence on Sunday, December 17th. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Law- rence Jr., and daughter Carolyn of Newmarket, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lawrence and Janet, Steven and Ted of Newtonville, Mr. John Law- rence and daughter Jackie of Port Perry, with sons Tim and Mike of Oshawa, Mr. and Mrs. James Cookson, Adam and Ann of Port Perry. Following the Christ- mas dinner, everyone joined in an evening of cards. By Bethany Schryburt The December meeting of the Blackstock Women's Institute took the form of a Pot Luck Dinner held near the noon hour in the town hall in Blackstock. The area 4-H leaders and past leaders were invited and each mem- ber was to bring a guest so about 36 ladies sat down to a delightful meal after singing the Institute Grace. Follow- ing the dinner the President, Mrs. Skelding, welcomed the guests and the meeting was opened with the ode, with Mrs. Taylor at the piano and the Mary Stewart Collect in unison. The secretary Mrs. S. Van Camp read the minutes of the last meeting and several thank you notes for gifts at commencement and other gifts.
