SNe) 'Blackstock area news J by Bethany Schryburt Blackstock celebrations included most University students being home for the holidays and several out-of- town relatives enjoying the hospitality of loved ones. Schryburt's enjoyed the weekend visit of Mrs. R. Schryburt and Leslie Schry- burt of Ottawa along with Mr. and Mrs. Ron Mayer and Kevin of Sarnia. Kevin Mayer celebrated his 1st birthday on Sunday, Decem- ber 24th at the Schryburt home in the Smith's woods. Recently Mr. and Mrs. Hermanus VanderHeul of Blackstock made a trip to Germany where they at- tended the funeral of Mrs. VanderHeul"s sister; travel- ling on to Holland to spend time with relatives there. Cartwright 'A'"Pack Cubs celebrated Christmas on Monday evening, December 18th with a party at the Recreational centre. Gifts were exchanged and Santa arrived, enlisting the help of _a fairy and an elf, who wore pointed hats with tassels to signify their importance. Santa was presented with a moustache comb 'in a fine leather case as a gift for attending the party. Fun and games were enjoyed throughout which ended with pop, tarts, and candy canes. : Tuesday morning, Decen-" ber 19, the Blackstock Nursery School held it's Annual Christmas Party at the Recreational Centre. A movie about Christmas in Mexico, starring Donald Duck animated version of the 12 Days of Christmas were shown to the nearly 60 three and four year olds attending the party. Games, cupcakes, juice and a sing- song were followed by the long awaited arrival of Santa who presented each of the children with a stocking filled with assorted goodies. CCCI, party due to illness so her gift was delivered to her home. Mothers and Fathers were surprised with a lovely decoupage that the children had made at school wrapped in 'potato print' paper also made by the three and four year olds. Blackstock Skating Club Christmas Party was held at the ice rink on Thursday evening from 7:30 to 9:00 with 75 children between the ages of 4 and 14 and several parents attending. Games and activities were or- ganized on the ice in class groups by Joan Swain and Linda Fletcher both were dressed up as Raggety Ann and Raggety Andy. The high school helpers, Trish Sleep, Karen Post, Debbie Wolters and Jean Horton were also dressed as Rag- gety Anns and one clown. The famous man in red arrived on skates and of course took over the show before the hot chocolate and cookies were served. Sever- al mother's donations of special cookies were ap- preciated by all. The Multiple Sclerosis Read-a-Thon was a giant success at the Cartwright Central Public School. Students participating as of December 12 had collected a total of $1,228.68 in support of the worthy cause. Mrs. Crawford's Group of Children at C.C.P.S. made a 'cookie castle', under the direction of Construction Engineer, Cheryl Vogel, which was used as the object of desire for a raffle. Grade one and two students sold tickets. The winner, Larry Vernon of 25 Sunrise Drive, _ was announced on Friday at noon. The students wish to thank all of the people who supported this effort which realized a profit of $122 which will go towards class activities and materials. Children attending Sunday School on Sunday, December 24, at the United Church in Blackstock were treated to a Christmas Cartoon by the Superintendent, Jean Adams from the film section of the Port Perry Library. 'Cosmo Christmas' showed the children the true meaning of Christmas and was also entertaining. Rev. Parsons conducted the Christmas Eve Service at 7:30 at the United Church. It was a beautiful service displaying the extraordinary amount of talent found in Blackstock. Songs were sung by: the Christmas Men's Choir, Teenage Choir, Junior Choir, and several duets and solos. As an added attraction University Students, home for the holidays, joined with the high school singers to present a beautiful perfor- mance, accompanied by Lois Van Camp, Herb Vines, Harry Wright on guitar and drums were well handled by Ray Porrill. The special readings were read by Lawrence Malcolm of the Nestleton charge and Gary McConnell of the Blackstock. By the end of the beautifull service the Christmas mood| could be felt in the air. December 19th, the card party met in Blackstock, winners were: 1-Mildred Thompson-85, 2-Ruby Tripp- 82, 3-Elwood Tripp-81, 4- Maxine Brock-80, 5-Lorna Swain-80, 6-Herman Kerry- 79, and low Percy Van Camp. Mr. and Mrs. Harold McLaughlin and Kelly enter- tained 23 for Christmas dinner: Mr. and Mrs. Keith Van Camp and family, Mrs. Toms, Mr.. and Mrs. Brad- burn and Matthew, Mr. and Mrs. Bill St. John of Oshawa, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Slemon and family of Hayden and Mr. and Mrs. Elgin taylor of Enniskillen. Students entertain at Nursing Home by Bethany Schryburt Two bus loads of students and instruments from Caft- wright Central Public School the - Nursing Home in Port Perry on Wed- nesday afternoon to enter- tain the delightful residents. Several members of Mrs. Kiezebrink's kindergarten, were certainly the hit of the show, presenting 'Welcome', singing, and playing rhythm instruments. Cartwright Central Public School Band performed several Christ- mas Carols, Westward Hoe, and Soul Rock under the direction of Mrs. Kiezebrink. Gospel Singers sang; When Love Was Born, Dona Nobis Pacem, Crystal Rose, and Let There Be Peace. 'Sounds of Cartwright' under the guidance of Mrs. Wendy Dixon, presented: Oh Susannah, Hillbilly Song, You Light Up My Life, Silent Night, Go Tell It On The Mountain, and Shalom Mrs. Dixon's CONTINUOUS FORMS available at the Port Perry Star 985-7383 Class of 7B sang strictly about Christmas with: Silver Bells, Mr. Santa, Trimming The Tree, Frosty The Snow- man, One Star, and We Wish You A Merry Christmas.
