Mr. and Mrs. Bob Cawker went to Toronto on Sunday to celebrate a family birthday. An opposite occurence took place when several relatives travelled from Toronto on Sun. to Aldred's Beach to celebrate the first birthday of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Long's little daugh- ter. Rev. and Mrs. Linstead have returned from a Florida vacation and next Sun. will be prepared to again assume their various duties and services. At this time we wish to extend sympathy to our mailman, Jack Burnham, with his wife and' other members of the family of the late Mrs. Oretta (Burnham) Hardy who spent most of her life on the Island. Before marriage she was Oretta Lansing. We remember her in recent years as a grand, older lady who lived near the Community Hall and took a keen interest in Community and people. This Fri. evening will be an interesting time for young children and teenagers at the Community Hall. First there will be two movies for the ~youngeronesfrom7to8p.m. - "The Cat in the Hat". (I remember reading that one to my granddaughter) then "Grandma and me." A small contribution will be appreciated from each child to help pay for the projector use-and rent of the Hall. As the young children are leaving, the teenagers, 13 years to 17 years will gather for their second dance (8 p.m to 12 p.m.) There will be a disc jockey and admission will be $1.50. Of course refreshments will be avail- able and chaperones will be present for help or guidance if needed. The small number present at the first dance . enjoyed themselves, so come out and give encouragement to your committee. On Sunday, Rev. We appreciated the 2 arrangements of flowers in memory of Mrs. Hardy. The children and adults alike always enjoy Mr. Clarke's illustrative stories. This week the subject was "Reaching for a target'. It involved young Richard in the mt, area of Kentucky "who broke his arm, when his- riding horse stumbled. 'The boy was fortunate in having the kindly Dr. of the area repair the damage and by his kindly manner, gave Richard a goal which in- volved industry, struggle and deprivation so that he too became a much needed Dr. in.his locality. This story touches us deep- ly as we relate it to the young girl in Port Perry on the weekend who experienced a similar. accident with fatal results. Tho' she cannot have a target, her life will affect the many young people who knew her and like Edith Bunker, they can resolve to fulfill her un- finished projects. At the Annual meeting we were pleased to accept the willingness of Mr. Micheal Lang and Mr. Jerry LeRoy to become two new stewards and to have Mr. Geo. Samells become an Elder in place of a Steward. January 9, 1979 Peterborough, Ontario RRSP's can save farmers tax dollars farm expansion," says Mr. Hutchison. These funds will be taxable , but depending on the situation, there may be no tax to pay, or the tax rate will be reduced from 50 percent to 20 percent." RRSPs are also valuable management tools if a farmer is planning a large capital purchase such as a combine, explains Mr. Hutchison. "The investment tax credit on the $60,000 combine is $4,500. An $11,000 RRSP combined with a $20,000 taxable income Farmers should consider Registered Retirement Savinds Plans (RRSPs) as part of their everyday finan- cial management, says Gary Hutchison, of the Ontario Agricultural College, Uni- versity of Guelph: Farmers can use these plans to average income from one year to the next, or to finance future farm expansion. "Buying RRSPs in a high income year can save taxes," he says. "Taxes on annual taxable income of $40,000, two years in a row, will be $15,000 each year under 1978 regulations." "However, if a farmer buys the maximum RRSP (20 percent of the income up to a maximum of $5,500), taxes will be reduced to $12,300 each year. During the following year, if the farm income dropped, or an expansion program resulted in reduced income or a cash loss, the farmer. could cash the RRSP. An $11,000 RRSP, plus interest, could be cashed for living expenses if necessary -or could be used to finance ful service as a very com- petent treasurer, as we real- ize it has involved much work and time. We shall try to get reports to as many interested people as pos- sible. Little Donnie Middleton had a few days in hospital with the flu that seems to have attacked so 0 many this winter. "The investment tax credit would offset most of the tax, then the balance of $10,600 would be available as a down payment on the combine," says Mr. Hutchi- son. RRSPs are also easy to buy and manage - another advantage for farmers. They can be purchased through banks or trust companies to offset the 1978 income until March 1. --RRSPs-are only one of the many management tools explained in the ' farm income tax course offered by the Ontario Ministry of Agri- culture and Food.
