Sponsored by the Ontario Society for Crippled Child- ren, Snowarama is part of a" province-wide event in which snowmobilers ride a 100-mile course, and rofove pledges from backers-for every mile completed. Half of the net proceeds raised across the province go to help crippled children, and the remainder is divided among - participating -snow- mobile clubs and various service clubs. Any snowmobilers from Scugog and Durham is in- vited to take part in the event this year, which will start at the Latcham Centre on Port Perry's waterfront on Sun- day, February 11. It is really quite easy. The snowmobiler - gets the pledges on a per mile basis, and registers at the Latcham Centre at 8:00 a.m., Feb- 100-mile course. : Last year, the Scugog Snowarama attracted 168 snowmobilers, and after all" expenses were paid, just about $5000 were raised for the Ontario Society for Crippled Children Snowmobilers wishing to ride in the event this year do not have to be a member of a club or organization. The Port Perry Snowarama is part of 21 similar 100-mile rides that have been or- ganized across Ontario this winter; all for the same purpose. Snowarama began five years ago as part of former wrestling great Whipper Watson's fund raising activi- ties on bghalf of crippled children, and in the past four years, Snowarama has raised almost $1 million. So, remember, if a snow- mobiler approaches you in the next week or so, and asks for a pledge, remember where your money will be going. Star publisher accepts challenge Port Perry Star publisher Peter Hvidsten has taken up the challenge and will ride the 100 miles of the Snow- arama on February 11 in aid of crippled children.
