Council voted Monday night in favour of a resolut- ion from councillor Reg Rose which calls for a study of the present costs of dog control, and what the costs might be if the municipality decides to set up some kind of pound and control facilities of its own. : Members of council over the past several months have generally not been happy with the level of enforcement and the fact tHat the dog pound is located in Uxbridge Township, and the canine control officer lives in Ux- bridge Township. Under the present system, Scugog shares the cost of dog pound operation and canine control with Uxbridge, and has been in this arrangement for several years. ~The monthly reports from Developers plan new golf course for west Scugog The owners of a 245 acre parcel of land in the south- west corner of Scugog Town- ship would like to start work this spring on an 18-hole championship golf course. ~ Tom McBroom, a planning consultant and golf course designer who represents Ridgeland Holdings of" Toronto, told a meeting of the Scugog Planning Com- mittee last week that while Ridgeland wants to develop STANDARD TRUST PE COMPANY INVEST NOW! 12% INTEREST PAID ANNUALLY FOR 5 YEARS DON FORDER Insurance Agency Lid. 20 WATER STREET, PORT PERRY Phone: 985-8471 - - the golf course, it also wants to develop 50 estate residen- tial lots over the next few years on the western section of the property. The land in question is in Ward 1, north of the Second Concession Road and just east of Regional Road 23. The golf course part of the development was re-zoned: last May from agricultural to open space. A- preliminary plan sub- mitted by Mr. McBroom at the planning meeting last week shows the golf course location on about 125 acres, but he suggested that the . size might have to be in- creased to 150 acres if the course is to be of champion- ship design and calibre. The plan also indicates a club house, tennis courts, lawn bowling green, swimming pool and outdoor cafe. The property cuts across an unopened road allowance, and runs up against a second unopened road allowance to the north. The residential portion of the development tentatively calls for 50 lots each about two acres in size along a winding road that will run through the west part of the development. The planning committee, made up of the full Scugog Township council, took no action on the proposal last week other than to refer it to future planning meetings when the consultant will present more detailed infor- mation. Members have received complaints about the length of time it takes the control officer to respond to a com- plaint, expecially one from the eastern areas of Scugog. The dog pound is in Good- wood, which is located west of the town of Uxbridge. While council agreed Mon- day night to only ask for a cost study on the situation, members generally made it clear they feel it is time to get out of the present arr- angement with Uxbridge and set up a pound in Scugog with a control officer based here. A letter was tabled at the meeting Monday night from a Cedar Creek resident offer- ing pound and control facil- ities at a cheaper rate than the Township is now paying. The letter, from Mrs. Mary Thomas, of RR2, Port ET TT TT TT Pw a nap ann mmm Perry says she is presently in possession of a kennel licence and could set up a pound at her property on the Cedar Creek Road. A spokesman for the Whit- by OPP said that Ethyl Badour of RR4, Port Perry, was walking on Highway 7A just west of Port Perry about 8:30 AM when the accident took place. The driver of the car, Ian Rudkin, also of RR4, Port Perry has not been charged by police. . -_ Tete Te Tn nce Tek Tek Tee ECC CoC 32525252525 2505052525 0525252 52 525252 52525252 525252525252 52 be available 24 hours a day for emergency calls. Council expressed interest in the letter, but agreed that if the municipality makes a decision to get out of the present dog control arrange- ment, the new job of supply- ing pound facilities and con- trol would have to be put to public tender. Garbage problems (From page 1) alty to the operator for the missed pick-up last week will cost the operator about $20. Council decided not to in- voke the penalty clause for the missed pick-up in Ward Two. In dealing with this issue, members of council said they have received com- plaints about the garbage collection, and they suggest- ed that people put their complaints in writing and forward them to the Town- ship office where they can be kept on file for review when the garbage contract comes up for renewal. a WILLIAMSON MOTOR SALES For the Best Deals on New G.M.
