Our guests are from Polyvalente de Carleton, a high school of 1500 students in Carleton, Quebec, which is on the Gaspe Penninsula. The exchange students awoke Thursday morning ® (very early) 2 a.m. - and travelled 150 miles to Mont Joli to catch their plane. In spite of the early morning start, and the long flight they were in high spirits when they reached Toronto. Once .identities were established and everyone was matched up with his or her appropriate exchange student the exhuberant crew headed towards Oshawa. There, Mr. Daleman the French consultant directed a ® guided tour of the office building of the Durham Board of Education. It was to bed early for the first night. The following day Friday, our annual Winter Carnival was held. To start off the morning everyone was assembled in the Lab for the crowning of the Carnival King and the announcement of his two princes. Second Prince was Roy Cowling, first Prince, Craig Larmer, and King for 1979 was Eric Kristensen. Eric, with his head adorned with his silvered crown cut the ribbon to officially commence the Winter Carnival for this year. The days events included a competitive tug-of-war won by the Ookpiks girls and the Tiger boys. The outdoor activities continued with sack races and 3-legged races; our guest had great fun participating in these somewhat strenuous races. Miss Sheen and Mlle. Piorior were tied together but still managed to laugh their way across the finish line after a number of spills down the course. To finish off the morning everyone moved inside to view the long awaited banana eating contest. Warren Strong outdid himself by winning hands down. Eric Kristensen placed second with Chris See the = U.S. CAPITAL Hudson coming in a close third. Johanne Nellis and Rachel Essiambre, two of the students from Quebec assisted in peeling and feeding the bananas to the boys. This fast technique was easily mastered. Once the mess was cleaned up, the lab was converted into a cafeteria as the people sat down to catch their breath and taste their lunch. Donuts and hot chocolate were on sale for any prospec- tive buyers. In the afternoon the boys and girls split up into Houses and had volleyball and broomball tournaments in the Rec Centre and the Arena. After the sGores were tallied at the end of the day the Tigers emerged vic- torious winning by one point over the Alikats and two points higher than the Ookpiks. Of the 15 participants in the exchange there is only one male, Andre Gallant sho is staying' with Craig Larmer. Andre and Craig admit they are doing quite well in spite of the high "girl to boy" ratio. Andre also had the pleasure of celebrating his birthday in Ontario on Monday. Early Saturday morning the students and their exchanges headed into Toronto to tour the capital of Ontario. The first stop was the CN Tower. The Quebec students were impressed to be on the top of the world's tallest free standing struc- ture (and we didn't even _ have any weezy stomachs!) Mr. Dorrell then drove the bus around downtown as Miss Sheen pointed out the more prominent buildings in downtown Toronto. As it came close to noon . time stomachs started to grumble and so we headed to the Old Spaghetti Factory to gorge ourselves on good Italian food. Casa Loma was our last stop and onto Oshawa to the Centre -- the longest shopping mall in Ontario. Saturday evening and all day Sunday the exchange students were free to spend their time as they please. t COMPARE THESE FEATURES COMPARE THESE PRICES! The Sterling Washer & Dryer Pair 1.
