Spring. has arrived Steve LaForest, a CLOCA guide, demonstrated to these two children how sap used to be poured out of wooden buckets into huge iron pots for boiling at the Purple Hill Conservation area this week. With &pring officially here and the sap running, both the conservation area and the Prentice Farm oh Scugog Island will be busy boiling sap into maple syrup during the next couple of weeks. In connection with maple syrup time are also two pancake feasts as well. This weekend, March 24 and 25 at the Prentice farm and the following weekend, March 3 and April 1 at the Purple Hill Conservation area [at the top of the Ridges]. Treasurer Joanne Lee read the financial statement which was accompanied with. cost. sheets for in- surance. It was announced that children attending school on Thursday, April 19th, both morning and afternoon, will meet at the school at 9:30, where they will be transpor- ted by mini-bus to 'Mothers' Pizza for a tour, returning between 11:15-11:30, after a pizza treat. Each child is required to take fifty cents for the cost of the bus. Brenda yequested that children afbays be sent to school with snowpants so that they make full use of the playground, during the cool months. A letter was read from Betty Fudge concerning the rules about snow days, missed by students. 'Com- pany Policy states that, "during bad weather cancel- lation of school, teachers will . be paid, rent paid, no make- up day and no-reimb ment will be made to the parent." Class pictures were dis- cussed at length and ar- rangements were made to approach Beth Schryburt as to the cost of individual and class photos. Judy Crawford reported on the success of the Parent Education Seminars being held in the Public School Library. A film has been obtained which is a follow-up to the first seminar, "The Value of Play'. It will be shown the second Tuesday in April, at 7:30, prior to the Nursery School monthly meeting. If there are any questions about this film, Judy Crawford should be contacted. Plans are underway for a '""Craft Bazaar", set for October 13th at the Recrea- tional Centre. Before the Bazaar, spring workshops are being arranged to aid the parents in the preparation of crafts. The Bazaar Commit- tee asked for, and received, a sum of $100 for the materials and advertise- ment needed to boost the project. Paula Lishman will do a workshop sometime in May on leather and fur crafts. April 2nd Kathy White will hold a workshop at her home on apple dolls and clothes pin furniture. Chris Cliff and JoAnne Russell have plans for a quilting workshop and many other exciting crafts are being planned. At the April meeting nominations will be made for 1979;-80 officers to be voted on at the May meeting. Sharon Logan has offered her pool for the party on June 1st. The all-school picnic and trip is scheduled for Saturday, June 2nd, ideas are needed at the April meeting. The school is a booming success and from the input of ideas and help from every parents it will continue to be the success it is.
