On Thursday, our Minis- tress of the Interior and ourselves were pleased to attend the opening cere- monies of the new Campbell- ford Coop store and Lumber facilities preceeded by a noon luncheon at which all past Chairmen and guestss were honoured by the presentation of a plaque depicting the former Coop facility on Saskatoon Street - a unique (if antique) build- ing that was built in 1883. It was our pleasure to turn the key to officially open the door for their grand opening. A bronze plaque com- memorating the auspicious occasion was jointly -un- draped by Chairman of Board Ernest Thain, Mayor Baker of Campbellford and Chief Executive Officer' of U.C.0. (General Manager) Julian Smith. Mr. Smith also dedicated the new store in a few well chosen remarks. Long time residents of this community learned with regret of the sudden passing of a former resident of this vicinity Mrs. Florence (Payne) Ferguson operated the general store at Burton, Ontario for many years - during those days prior to Chain Stores and more densely populated rural areas. Sympathy is exten- ded to their son Sydney, an old highschool collegue of ours, his wife and family. His mother was a very out- going lady particularly active in Cadmus Ladies organization during their sojourn in this community. Mr. Sheckleton was just admitted into Port Perry hospital last Monday but deteriorated quickly in health.
