In the final game of the series Tim Parker, Brian Dickson and Brian Mikkel- son scored for Port. Jeff -Mills replied for the visitors. The game was chippy throughout. Chris Cookman played well in goal for both games. got the better of it but was later given an early exit. The rough house tactics employed by boths teams may have stemmed from a lengthy scuffle in the runway to the dressing rooms after the third game. The first period was a close, hard checking one, which remained scoreless. Thanks to some excellent penalty killing by Tim Thompson and defenceman Mark Jeffrey and some sharp goaltending by Warren Nicholishen, Port Perry was able to keep St. Mary's off the board. Port also had some good chances but they failed to capitalize on them. Port Perry coach Walt Sandeson later stated that the play of Nicholishen was a key factor in the win. The Motors team was the first to score early in the middle. period, Parker doing the honours without an assist. Brian Dickson scored on a nice deke to give the hosts a two goal lead minutes later Brian Mikkelson set it up with a sharp pass. St. Mary's drew to within one as Jeff Mills--beal_ Nicholishen while Port was two men short. It came with 9:09 left in the period. Mikkelson scored one of his own with 2:14 remaining in the second when he beat goaltender Dan Armstrong with a wrist shot from the slot. Thompson and Dickson drew assists. This was the big line for the Motors during the last two games and they supplied the eventual Championship winner. For the last fifteen minutes both teams forgot about the abrasive style of play and concentrated on playing sound hockey. The visitors came out flying and deposited the puck past Nicholishen 25 seconds into the final session. After the goal, play settled down into a tight checking game. Dale Geer played a strong game defensively, on the Port Perry blueline, as he did a good job repeatedly clearing the puck. The contest became more tense until, with 42 seconds remaining Armstrong was removed in favour of an extra attacker. St. Mary's almost tied it when Nicholis- hen was forced to make a big save with five seconds left. Captain Tim Thompson, who played well in the final two games of the series accepted the trophy on behalf of his jubilant team- mates. Coach Sandeson credited team work with the key to the Championship. 'It was strictly a team effort", he said. "There are no indivi- duals on this team'. He was also unconcerned with his team's rough play in the final game, saying that 1t came out of frustration.
