Surely it must be a sign that spring is really coming in earnest. "Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Mount- joy have. returned from nearly two weeks holiday in Western Canada. They visited with their son Mr. and Mrs. Brian Mountjoy and family at Fruitvale, B.C. near Trail. Then they all enjoyed a motor trip together to Vancouver and Victoria. Sympathy is extended to Mrs. Norman Green, sons Jack and Don and families on the passing last week of Mr. Green, one of Cart- wright"s grand old gentle- men. For years Mr. Green had taken a very active part in the life of Cartwright Township. He was Reeve of this township and also Warden of the United Counties. Sympathy to his many relatives and friends. Sympathy is also extended to Mr. and Mrs. Jim Emer- ton on the recent passing of Ethel's sister. The Samells and Mountjoy cousins received word of the passing of Everett Mountjoy of Weyburn, Sask. on April 21. He was 86. Mr. Mountjoy was born and raised in Cart- wright. Julie Byers celebrated her 8th birthday on Thursday by entertaining Frances Grove, Lynda Parsons, and Esther Kelly to a party after school. With campaigning gaining momentum these days for the upcoming federal elec- tion, Neil McLaughlin is concerned with the number of local residents who thinnk it is he who is the N.D.P. candidate. This concert was performed by the Janetville Choir. Terry Black and Blair Graham visited Harold Amos in Durham over the weekend. The Achievement Day for the Homemaking Clubs, "Accessories, the Final Touch" was held in Maple Grove United Church on Saturday morning. Members and leaders of the three Blackstock Clubs attended and took part in the programme. County Honour Certificates and. Pins were presented to seven girls one of who was Marilyn Green. Four girls won Provincial Honours upon completion of twelve units, one of whom was Anne Kristensen. Congratulations girls. The Blackstock W.1. met in the Township Hall on Thurs- day evening. The President Mae Shortridge opened the meeting with the Ode and the Mary Stewart Collect. The minutes of the April meeting and an executive meeting were read and approved. Delegates for the District Annual were appointed for May 9th in Maple Grove. An article to be taken was donated by Miss Dempsey to go on the sale table. Appre- ciation was expressed for her kindness. Mrs. Frank Hoskin offered to print the programmes and Mrs. M. Shortridge was going to try to find a caretaker for the Memorial Park. A report from the Parks Board about the town hall brought a motion that we wanted it only painted. This motion was passed. It was decided that we would offer to have the fun fair at Blackstock this fall. Help was asked to assist at the Museum again this summer. Gifts for the two 4-H girls have been purchased. We would like to have them attend our next meeting so we can present these gifts. The motto - "May sets the pattern for the summer" was given by Mrs. H. Bailey. The treasurer gave a report showing the returns from the Curling Banquet and from the quilting of two quilts. The Roll Call was answered by the Theme of the meeting which was Citizenship. Many fine thoughts were given. One of our young orators, Caroline Carnaghan gave us her speech which had won her recognition. This speech on World War Years which was both serious and humorous and very real to us and much enjoyed. Mrs. Harold Martyn had just returned from the Officers' Conference at Waterloo as our delegate and was just bubbling over with enthusiasm. She gave us some of the highlights and wondered why any woman would not want to be a W.I. member. The singing of O Canada brought the meeting to a close. A social hour followed with fresh biscuits and muffins, cheese, jam and tea.
