Officers Conference held at the University of Waterloo on May 1, 2, and 3rd proved to be a most enjoyable and interesting three days, reports Mrs. Lawrence Malcolm, Nestleton delegate for Durham West District. Mrs. Clarence Diamond, President of F.W.1.0. presided. The theme was "Each generation makes its own accounting to its child- ren." (Robert F. Kennedy) befitting the "International Year of the Child." Workshops dealt mainly with the Tweedsmuir History stressing its impor- tance to the community. On Wednesday evening the Kitchener-Waterloo Har-- monizers - a men's Barber-' shop Chorus, presented a splendid concert in the Humanities Theatre to the more than 500 delegates registered. Nestleton Womens Institute The Nestleton Women's Institute met on May 2nd at the Community Centre. President Mrs. W. Bolan hicles many more options, COLIN BALL MOTORS LTD. Hwy. 7A West - Port Perry 985-8411 welcoming 16 members and one visitor. The W.I. Ode was sung with Mrs. G. Thompson at the piano. The Mary Stewart Collect was repeated in unison. The President gave a reading "You Do Not Love Me" in keeping with the theme "International Year of the Child." Mrs. Firlit read the minutes of the last meeting. The Roll Call for June is 'Little things make life beautiful." What makes life beautiful for you? The Motto for the next month, Memory is a wonderful thing if you know how to pack it." The business portion dealt with a discussion re- dele- gates to attend the District Annual to be held at Maple Grove on Wednesday, May 9th. The three delegates are Mrs. Wm. Bolan, Mrs. L. Malcolm, and Mrs. W. Firlit. It was decided that in future "Best Wishes" only be sent in lieu of a gift to members celebrating Wedding Anniversaries, etc, from the W.I. Mrs. J. Wygerde brought to our attention that it will be Nestleton's turn to host the District Annual next year. The Programme was presented by Mrs. W. . Jackson, and a reading enjoyed "Kindergarten Rock". The singing of O Canada and the Institute Grace closed this part of the meeting. The expert Auctioneer Mrs. J. Wygerde did a fine job - from the sale of plants, baked goods and other items the Institute realized over $60.00 for the Treasury. Next meeting will be held June 6th. Mrs. H. McLaugh- lin extended a vote of thanks to all who took part making it an enjoyable afternoon. Pancake Breakfast Several Nestleton men are. ton girl Mrs. Marion Ford (nee Taylor) now a resident in Toronto, and approaching her senior years, has won an award in a playwriting competition held recently by the Smile Company, 'a non- profit theatrical group which tours Nursing Homes and Senior Citizens establish- ments, putting on dramatic and musical shows for the elderly. Marion is well know for her poetic contributions which have appeared in the Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, for many years. Now parts of her play "Martha" are to be incor- porated in presentations slated for upcoming tours this Spring. The Artistic Director of Smile Co. Peter McConnell in his criticism of Marion Ford's work, described "Martha" as a 'beautiful piece." . The friends within this area, Nestleton, Caesarea, etc., are very happy for Marion on her latest literary achievement and "Warmest congratulations' are in order. ' Reminder Don't forget the "Trees For Canada Day" in the Pine Ridge District. The Cubs and Scouts within the Dis- trict will be planting the trees on Saturday, May 12th, this is an important training for the boys in conservation and reforestration. During the next week the boys willbe be calling on people in their local areas asking for pledges, so don't disappoint them. Welcome Home Welcome home to Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Social News Mr. and Mrs. Grahame Fish, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Dan Corby and Paul Vinegk, attended a Drama held in Hampton Arena, Saturday evening. The play was entitled "Joseph and the Amazing Dream Coat" and presented by Courtice School. Paul's brother and sister were in the play. Keizebrink and Mrs. Dickson the Choir and Band were excellent - even the Kinder- garten students were real performers. The Musical evening held at North Nestleton United Church Sunday evening last, presented by the Janetville Choir was much enjoyed by the large crowd atttending. The variety of solos, duets, quartets, full Choir, etc. was well worth hearing. The capable, humourous M.C. John Burn, song leader, Paulina Effer and the accompanists were splendid namely: Cathy Malcolm, Ruth Skuce, and Mr. Gordon. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Malcolm, Nestleton attended the 25th Wedding Anniver- sary party of Mr. and Mrs. Harper Kelsey at Newcastle on Saturday. Mr and Mrs. Bert Bowers and two boys of Oshawa, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bowers and four children of Tyrone, were Sunday evening supper guests with their parents Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Bowers, Nestleton. Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Lywood and Mrs. Vera Trick, Lindsay were evening guests. Mr. and Mrs. Geo.
