2 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, May 9, 1979 'Hospitals are OK' -- This is the theme adopted this year for Canada Hospital Day, May 12th, in support of the United Nations Program for the International Year of the Child, with an aim to show a child's perspective of hospitals. The Community Memorial Hospital, with the aid of their Candy Stripers, are sponsoring a Poster Contest, open to children in the area, with cash rewards for the "best" poster. The Candy Stripers, under the supervision of their Co-ordinator, Mrs. Mary Brinkman, will judge the posters and make the awards. . The Candy Striper program is a year-round community-involvement program carried out through your community hospital and participation by many of our local teen-agers very often leads to a nursing or health care field career. As well as this program, the hospital frequently participates in student work week experience, not only with the Port Perry High School students, but with Durham College and Cartwright Schools as well. Students are able to work in various departments throughout the hospital, with the training aid of hospital employees. - ' The Canadian Hospital Association are presenting a Canada Hospital Day Place Mat featuring a drawing by 12 year old Cathy Mott while she was a patient at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario. The Hospital will be distributing these place mats to local restau- rants for their use on- May 12th.
