Hydro seeks 9.5% bulk rate increase Ontario Hydro has pro- posed a 1980 increase in-bulk power rates averaging 9.5 per cent, Chairman Robert Taylor announced this week. This would affect the cost of wholesale power supplied to municipal utilities and to some 100 large industrial * No Charge Chequeing * Daily Interest Accounts COME IN AND COMPARE COSTS customers next year. The proposal has been submitted to the Minister of Energy Board. In making the announce- ment Mr. Taylor said, 'The proposed increase is con- sidered the minimum to cover costs and to avoid Te ~ Tp ---------- It's YOUR Credit Union! further deterioration of Ontario Hydro's financial soundness. It assumes a continuing high level of profitable export sales and continued high costs resul- ting from locked in power at the Bruce nuclear genera- ting station." The actual increase in the wholesale cost of power supplied to Ontario's 332 municipal utilities will differ Borelians drop next production Following a season of four successful theatrical produc- tions in just over a year, the Borelians have met with some difficulties in the casting of the next stage venture. There Goes The Bride, a hilarious comedy, was scheduled to be performed some time in June, but due to other commitments for some of the players during the important rehearsal period, Les Parkes and his hard- working co-workers found it necessary to postpone the production. Borelians will be back with a new production as soon as the summer is over and the fall arrives with another hectic concert and theatre season in Town Hall 1873. 5252552525250 plop lop lon an Lop [ol] 5¢525252525¢ 525d 5¢5¢ pla [ope Lope [aye Lope Lee Lope Lope [oye Lp | 525¢ Te Te 5252525252555 2525252525 529252525252 5¢S SO COO ICICI ICICICICICICIC 52525252525252525252525252525252552525252525¢52525¢5¢2 025252525 2525250505206250 5262605052555 35I60C 52525252525252525¢52 COCs 1979 PINTO SEDAN 2 door, 2300 c.c., 4 speed transmission, AM radio, electric defroster, tinted glass, bodyside mouldings, deluxe bumper group, power front disc brakes, wheel covers. The effect on the average residential customer would be to increase his bill by about $3 a month, plus any increase in distribution costs at the local utility level. For the large industrial customers supplied with power by Ontario Hydro the proposal would increase rates in 1980 by about 7.8 per cent. This is the first time in six years that the increase proposed for the industrial customers is not greater than that for the municipal utilities. Among the factors contributing to the difference are: The elimina- tion of a deficit pertaining to the large industrial cus- tomers; a difference in the use of certain facilities (industrial customers are usually supplied at higher voltages) between the municipal utilities and the industrial customers; and a change in the pattern of use by the industrial customers. The 1980 cost increases which result in this proposal, include: $52 million for escalating fuel costs, largely coal; some $70 million for higher interest charges and depreciation; and $80 million for retirement of debt and partial financing of new generation and transmission facilities. - Mr. and Mrs. Walter Dutkewich of R.R.2 Blackstock are heading for Cuba this December after winning free trip sponsored by the Port Perry MoJack Junior C hockey team.
