High School Master Minds grab first place A team of five students from Port Perry High School captured first place in the annual Master Mind Tour- nament held April 27 in Lakefield. The team earned a total of - 593 points, 86 ahead of the next closest rival, O'Neill Collegiate. This was the first year Port Perry High School entered a team in this competition which is spon- sored by Parker Brothers, and in addition to taking first place overall, Martha McCallum had the highest individual score of 210 points. Here itis 1979, a time when nobody does anything for nothing, and some crazy people in our community go and break the rules. What I am referring to is the splendid display of grati- tude shown by the Dowson family to mark their anniversary in business. So much food, fun and merri- ment all at once, by so many people is to say the least, amazing!! Not only that, but the idea of everyone in the whole Plaza coming up with their own extravaganza is terrific. Well, I'm here to tell you I just had a most rewarding experience and I'd like to go on record and let these people know they are doing one heck of a fine job. I had major surgery this past week and somehow or other ended up on the mater- nity wing at P.P. Hospital. For the first few days I was given thorough bed baths - back rubs - pillow fluffing, gentle smiles, words of encouragement and a whole lot of genuine care. I saw or heard young women coming in to go through labour and delivery. What a thrill to wake in the night and hear RE-ELEC the first.cry of a little new being. Once I was on my feet I had the nursery window to peek in to see whether a new pink or blue bundle had been added. There is a great top-notch nursing staff on this ward headed up by Mrs. Mountjoy. Everyone extends them- selves beyond their duties to meet physical and mental needs. I even had a profes- sional wash and set while I was there. I didn't get to leave with a pink or blue bundle, but I sure left with a renewed hope for the future of nursing. My sincere thanks to you all.
