¥ wu Poy . lar, well known for his delightful pi- iano concerts in Port Perry, has been granted the prestig- ious Licentiate from the Roy- al School of Music, London, England. The exam consisted of three solo performances of major works on the piano, and Dr. Millar went to the Bahamas last month for the exam. The degree is one of the most difficult granted to pi- ano performers, and Dr. Millar received a mark of 186 out of 200, or 93 per cent, and very good comments from the examiner, Dr. Douglas Hopkins. Dr. Hopkins is a fellow of the Royal Academy of Mus- ic, London, and a former organist at St. Paul's Cathe- dral, Westminster Abbey and Canterbury Cathedral. Dr. Millar told the Star last week that he has been pre- paring for the examination for about nine months, and he was very pleased to have passed, especially with such high marks. Dr. Millar has given three solo concerts at Town Hall, 1873, in Port Perry, and all have been sell-outs. He has also accompanied for sever- al musical productions by the Scugog Choral Society.
