by Mrs. Earl Reader - The Women's Institute will meet tonight. The roll call will require you to go through your family photos and find a picture of your grandparents. As the museum will soon be open full time and this is a project related with the past and this is of interest to everyone, it was decided to focus the program around the early days of the Island and events which have led up to life as it is now. On Monday evening a hurriedly prepared event took place when a few neigh- bours of the "Head" and a few neighbours of Casimir St. decided to pay a surprise visit to the home of a former "Head" resident. This took the form of a chivari to express best wishes to Chas Wilson and the former Mrs. Marjorie Moon upon the occasion of their recent marriage. For many years the Wilsons had lived near the present home of Carol and Glen Wilson. They fit well into the community life. When they moved to the Blackstock area, and then Port Perry, they never lost contact with the Island and we were always pleased to see them return for various functions. On Tuesday evening the representative of the Scugog Pastoral Charge attended the last meeting of the year of Presbytery at Zion Church, a lovely, old and small Church which has been modernized and expanded to accomodate the expanding community. Here the present minister Rev. Paul Erb, who was guest speaker at the museum Church last October was installed as the new president of Presbytery. For this occasion, the Church was filled, as it usually is every Sunday morning. As the week progressed we all remember how the heat was turned on for the hay- makers. But of course, it didn't add to physical comfort and perhaps decreased the numbers in attendance at the Heayn sale, Church attendance picked up on Sunday when the child- ren returned with their parents to receive their awards. Each year it seems as if attendance drops off a little earlier as the great outdoors beckons to us. Anyway Rev. Clarke and the teachers had made very interesting preparations including a little garden gate through which the children passed as they received their award and moved to a higher level of learning. 'The super- intendent thanked all who had given fine support through the year and asked for additional help in the Fall. Mrs. Cawker has given very fine leadership and spent much time on the phone to make all aware of various events. The annual swim day will be at Poplar Park, June 27. The Sunday School will pay the entrance STRAWBERRIES 'Mid-June to Mid-July MISE LLU LAE MPa es 1 x a 2nd fee. So after your lunch you will head for the Park, prepared for a good time together. Rev. Clarke announced a new project which other Churches are following. In sports and the theatre, people receive cups or trophies for accomplish- ments, so it is only right that work in the Church should also receive recognition and at the same time receive lasting benefits for life. This is for children 9 years old and up, so you had better cut this out for future refer- ences, if you are willing to work for this award. There is no time limit given. Of course some will work more diligently and faster than others. But you all have a chance to receive this award for your life. This would be something to display and show to your future family. Here are the required memorizations in a day when even school memoriza- tion is not emphasized. So this is an even greater accomplishment. 1 - Know the Lord's Prayer. 2 - Be able to repeat the 23rd Psalms. 3 - The Apostle's Creed. 4 - The Ten Com- mandments. 5- A Favourite Hymn. 6 - 1st Corinthians - 13th Chapter. 7- 91st Psalm. 8 - A passage from Micah. This may seem like a lot, but it is a challenge. Try a competition with your parents and ask for their help. If children in other churches can do it, you can AR do it. soon. The flowers in the Church were in memory of Mr. Wm. Peters, the father of Mrs. Michael Lang of Aldred's Beach. Following a car accident he developed an illness he was not able to defeat. At this time we wish to express our deepest sympathy to the family. As Sunday was Father's Day, we studied the life of David and his great love for his son Absalom. Sunday afternoon many people visited at the home of Alva and Clare Thompson on Con. 6 to convey Best Wishes and Congratulations upon the occasion of their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Many men are shy about these functions. But I'm sure when it takes place, they experience much pleasure and satisfaction in realizing the friendships and accomplishments they have made through the years. We Let's start a record are tempted to wonder how many similar celebrations will take place 50 years from now. Incidentally, it was noted that it is a great opportunity for old and former neigh- bours to get together for an informal chat, for which we rarely seem to have time in these hurried days. Now, we come to our special Dedication Service next Sunday at the Island Church. Invitations have been sent out to all people who gave special donations to the piano and various Ber orid ' HK SRL Pl sdfedaissntitidntsidiinienitbuinnibin eamonvsldiddivabute asks std tndian sa Ce lbw ER din son a Ee A DOR PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, June 20, 1979 -- 23 ..
