8 --- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, June 20, 1979 Seagrave and area news GRADUATE Maxine Hartin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Maxwell Hartin of Port Perry, received her B.A. in History at the June 4 convocation of Carleton University in the National Art Centre in Ottawa. Maxine plans to attend Nippissing University Teacher's College in North Bay. She plans on working with Native Canadians after she graduates. by Betty Somerville It seems strange to be sitting back in the corres- pondents chair after a nice break. A special thanks to the gals for doubling up and doing my duty during my absence - it was very much appreciated. I also want to say thanks for all the cards, gifts, and best wishes that we received upon our little boy's arrival. Church and Sunday School resumed once again as usual on Sunday morning with the U.C.W. ladies in charge. A very interesting guest speak- er, Mrs. David Harris, talk- ed of her and Rev. Harris's experiences while they were ministering in Newfound- land. It was a pleasure to have them back in our com- munity. A special thanks to Mrs. Eleanor Sturman, Mrs. Marilyn Beacock, Mrs. Di- ane Puckrin, Mrs. Donna Phyppers, Mrs. Betty somer- ville, Mrs. Barb. MacDPon- ald, Mrs. Marion Short, and Mrs. Anne Winnfield for their part in conducting the Service. Thanks also to Mrs. Joan Lee and the choir for the beautiful music they cdn- tributed. After the service, the con- gregation were invited to the Ball Park to join in with the Sunday School Picnic. With the weather in top condition everyone enjoyed them- selves in an afternoon of fun. A special thank you to Bill Barr from Stedmans for his contribution toward the priz- es. The oldest person at the picnic was Mr. Ken Stur- man, and the youngest was Master Ryan Puckrin and the lucky winner of the lawn chair donated by Stedmans was Mrs. Jackie Boyle. Congratulations folks ! Seagrave Unit 1 of the U.C.W. will meet at the home of Mrs. Shirley Barr on Monday, June 25th at 8:00 Need Photos!! Once again we are getting low on photographs to feature in our "Remember When" column and we are PM and Unit 11's meeting will be held at Mrs. Maxine Nauereaux on Monday, June 25th at 8:00 PM as well. The gals of Unit 11 are asked to bring a craft or baking to the meeting for a silent auction. Also please do not forget the bake sale that will be held at Stone's barn on June 29th. Services next Sunday at Church will be of confirma- tion and Communion. The Sunday School will be com- bined so everyone can enjoy a slide presentation. Pumpkin Corners appears to be hive of activity this spring with a new house being erected on one side of the corner and on the other side a new barn is coming along nicely. The back half and porch of a house has 'been torn off with plans to rebuild a new one and the foundation of a barn is hav- ing soinething done to it! A welcome home to Mr. Roy Boyle who has been in Newfoundland for a couple of weeks working on a new advertisement for the Carl- ing-O'Keefe Company. The children of Grade 2,5 and 6 from Greenbank Pub- lic School enjoyed a day of fun at Kensington Market, Chinatown and City Hall in Toronto on Monday. Please call her with your news at 985-3595, Twin Club picinic The Durham Region Parents Twin Club will hold a picnic June 24 at the Heber Downs Conservation Area. The festivities gets under- way at 11:00 a.m. and parents are asked to bring their own lunches. Soft drinks will be available.
