¢ Yelverton area news By Harvey Malcolm Confirmation Sunday was observed at Yelverton United Church with a capacity turn- out due in part to the large number of candidates who were present for confir- mation. The newly organized choir under the direction of Mrs. Ernestine Robinson, contributed special music for the occasion. Two bou- quets of flowers added extra. colour for the occasion and were placed there by the Church in memory of a for- mer public spirited member of our community, the late Emma Henders. Officiating at the Confirm- ation Service, Rev. Charles Kitney prouded the address and assisted Rev. Stanley Haines with the service. Elders Terry Malcolm and Floyd Stinson assisted with the Confirmation and the Communion Service that followed. Those admitted in- to church membership were Carolyn and Jennifer Ken- nington, Lana Malcolm, Mona Malcolm, Dianna and Sylvia. McCabe and their sister Dawne Johnson, Liana Preston, Audrie Brown and David Moore. Mrs. Hazel Gray was received by tran- sfer. Ushers for the occasion were Quinten and Darryl Robinson. Following the service, a delicious dinner was provided for all in the Church Hall by the Yelverton U.C.W. ladies and other ladies of the community. The Confirmation Service was most impressive with one of the largest classes in recent years. Rev. Haines is to be commended for the time spent with the can- didates in preparing them for this important decision. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Robin- son attended the wedding of their nephew, Mr. Gordon Visee in Cavan on Saturday. On 'Sunday afternoon they visited Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Henderson in Toronto to of- fer congratulations to Ruth on graduating with her R.N. Diploma in Nursing. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Gray motored to Brampton on Sunday to visit with Mr. and Mrs. Randy Longfield and family. Guests present at Confir- mation Service on Sunday because of family in- volvement and visiting with relatives included - Mrs. English of R.R. 4, Lindsay, Sunday guest of Mr. and Mrs. Oram Moore, David and Lynn; Judge Paul and Mrs. Pickett and James of Toronto with Mrs. Audrie Brown and later were after- noon callers at the Harvey Malcolms; Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Miller of. Pickering with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Ken- nington of Lotus this weekend. Pleased to hear Bob has been hired as Vice Principal in Blackstock Elementary School starting in Septem- ber. Belated congratulations to Grandview Public School whose two ball teams won top honours in Victoria County School competition. Lana Malcolm as team cap- tain, received the trophy on behalf of her team. Lana recently competed in the Amateur Contest at Millbrook and won first place in the Intermediate Class with her vocal solo and guitar accompaniment. Lana also had the lead role . in the Grandview play recen- tly, '"The Wizard of 02'. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Malcolm left on Sunday for a week at the Pork Congress in Stratford. A local couple are curren- tly enjoying a motor trip to Western Canada. More in- formation later. Mrs. Hazel Whittaker has just returned from Edmon- ton where she visited two of her granddaughters. Miss Valerie Malcolm has accepted employment in a men's haberdashery in Ed- monton within a week of her arrival there. Mrs. Mitzi Fick spent the weekend with her parents, the Harvey Malcolms and attended Mona's Confir- mation. Mrs. Audrie Brown is scheduled to attend certain plays at Shaws at Niagara on the Lake this week. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Malcolm attended the wed- ding of Mr. and Mrs. Aldo Nasato in Port Credit on Friday evening. While staying overnight this week at the Ramada Inn on Dixie Road, we had the opportunity to witness- the feat of the dare-devil jump- ing off the roof of the 9 storey hotel in flames. In their efforts to extinguish the flames, they also nearly suffocated the jumper with carbon dioxide.
