Mr. Grierson said the senior citizens would likely have no objection to a smaller expansion of the library on the present site, but councillor Reg Rose pointed out that the growing population of the Township now and in the future may require a larger expansion Several members of council were clearly upset over the fact that the petition contained incorrect informa- tion regarding the Town- ship's share of the cost of any library expansion. Councillor Richard Drew aksed Mr. Grierson if the senior citizens objected to the fact the council bought the two acres of waterfront property earlier this year for $150,000, and when he replied "no" councillor Drew stated that "if they don't object to - that, it is inconceivable they. would be against putting any building on the land. That would be a very expensive park," said councillor Drew. Councillor Don Crosier, however, agreed with the intent of the petition, stating that he is not in favour of any building on the waterfront ' property owned by the Township. Councillor Jerry Jackman informed council that he will be meeting with the Senior Citizens Club members this week to discuss the library expansion plans and other matters. He said that any library expansion should not be done just to meet the needs of today, but rather the future. Commenting on why he and other members of council were not in favour of Initial plans to expand present library building, he said "we thought an addition would ruin the appearance." By suggesting a new build- ing site for the library on the lakefront, councillor Jack- man said, "We were trying to save the monument (the War Memorial by moving the use of the library."
